After all, Dante's Peak doesn't pretend to be anything more than an updated variation on a whole catalog of disaster movie clichés. Despite all that, it's reasonably enjoyable. It's an added bonus that the script is just smart enough to allow Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton to play their roles with straight faces, never condescending to the audience of the formulaic story. He's a volcano expert from the U.S. Geological Survey, and she's the mayor of a cozy Washington State town perched beneath a volcano that's about to blow. Telltale signs are everywhere, so evacuation must be carried out immediately. Of course, not everybody's eager to leave, and even some of Brosnan's colleagues think his alarm is premature. This sets the stage for massive ash clouds, rivers of raging mud and molten rock, flattened forests, and death-defying escapes by Brosnan, Hamilton, and some (but not all) of her family, friends, and townsfolk. So what if it's all pretty flaky... and can a four-wheel-drive vehicle travel over fire and molten lava without bursting its tires? Don't ask too many questions, and you'll find Dante's Peak to be (if you'll pardon the pun) a total blast.  Rating:  - Dantes Peak its wonderfulI watched the Dantes Peak back in 2005 unfortunately the cd was stolen. so my happiness is renewed when i purchase another copy from Amazon. For those interested in Geography, Dantes Peak will keep you at horizon, I wonder no matter how much you watch the DAntes Peak, it calls for more watching.... it is is really wonderful. Rating: - DON'T LOOK BACK!In the quiet town of Dante's Peak,the locals are celebrating their award for second best place to live in the United States.Meanwhile,there is fire on the mountain above just waiting to let go,and only one man knows it.Peirce Brosnan stars as Harry Dalton,an expert volcanologist who sees a serious problem coming for this quiet little town.Unfortunately,Harry cannot seem to convince his boss or the city councel that something fishy is afoot.As most survival/nature movies go,there is lost love...and ... Read More Rating: - The featurette alone is worth the price of the DVDThe making of... featurette was worth the price of the DVD. It was well made and informative. The commentary was excellent as well. I had already owned a laser disk copy of this film when I purchased it which was well done in terms of visual and audio so purchasing the DVD definitely gave me value adds in terms of the extras. The film itself is well done if you like drama and action thrills. Rating:  - Pretty good....Dante's Peak kept me interested throughout the whole film. I think it is a little too far fetched but was good all the same. Rating: - Great movie, received in perfect conditionI think I received this movie on time (not important at the time). Great movie, had seen it at least twice before. Good story line, great action but family-friendly so I had no hesitation in letting our five and six year olds see it with us. Highly recommended. |
