Unfortunately, it is a bit dry, as the repetitive music is distracting and certain images are shown far too frequently. However, the varied materials used to tell this tale will please history buffs. The producers employed a blend of battle reenactments, location filming, paintings, engravings, and the narratives of actual letters and documents from the 1770s. Events are covered in detail--these are not just the highlights remembered from school. However, due to the density of the material, you have to be a fan of the genre. The narrators include such well-polished actors as Charles Durning, Michael Learned, Rick Schroder, and Cliff Robertson. --Rochelle O'Gorman Description: This epic production tells the stories of the men and events that shaped the birth of our nation. From the masterful diplomacy of Ben Franklin to the inglorious fate of Benedict Arnold, THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION is the definitive look at the struggle to create a new form of government for a New World. And hear the words of the founding fathers and the men who fought for freedom read by leading actors such as Kelsey Grammer and Michael Learned. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Can't get enough historyI've always found history interesting. These DVDs are worth watching again and again. Very interesting every time Rating: - If Your Love American Revolutionary HIstory, You'll Love This SetI have both sets by the History Channel and I love both of them. The other (and newer) one by the the History is more accurate and complete in it's presentation of the material; the film quality on the newer set is also better--but I still enjoy watching this set just as much as the newer and more complete one. I like the insights of the historians who help with the narrative in this older video history. Perhaps if you can only buy one set you should first get the newer one but if you love reviewing ... Read More Rating: - Incomplete taleThis collection is not nearly so good as two others--The Revolutionary War narrated by Charles Kuralt, and The Revolution which is a 13 part series also by the History channel. After watching those, I found this set missing many key details in the others. I recommend those to you instead. Rating: - BIG DISAPPOINTMENTWritten on an elementary level, and provides no insightful information past what you learn in Middle School. I was hoping for something on the level of "The World At War" or "The Civil War." Instead, I got "Schoolhouse Rock" without the good music. Rating: - Stunning both visually and in contentA stunning documentary of the politics and military aspects of the American Revolution. Very well done. The visuals are captivating and the content is in depth enough to please the most demanding historiphile. |
