Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
A blend of live-action and animation, this film centers on a fearful young boy (Macaulay Culkin) afraid to experience life because he's calculated the odds of an accident for every known activity. Chased by bullies, he winds up at the local library, where a bump on the head sends him into an animated universe, where his best friends are walking, talking books voiced by, among others, Patrick Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg. The Pagemaster (Christopher Lloyd) points the way to the exit, but the boy must first traverse the adventures of literary history, encountering everyone from Dr. Jekyll to Captain Ahab to Long John Silver. The animation is middling, but a worthy message makes this better children's entertainment than you'd expect. How can you fault a movie that encourages kids to pick up a book? --Marshall Fine

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - It's a wholesome movie for kids...
I read this book to my son first and then he wanted to see the movie. I bought him the DVD and we watched it together. We liked the fact that it was done in half animation and half real actors. That was fun and cool for my 4 yr old. He likes Macaulay Culkin also so that was a bonus. Christopher Lloyd is in it briefly here and there but not a lot. He plays the librarian and the voice of the animated Page Master. Lots of stars lend their voices to this movie which adds to its appeal. The movie is ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My kids love this movie
I had this movie on vhs and decide I needed to get it on dvd. I bought this movie for my oldest son when it first came out and he still loves it to this day but over the years the tape has worn out. my youngest son saw it one day and was hooked on watching it over and over that why I got the dvd one. This movie is a good family movie and has good action and adventure for kids. I think it has a good message for kids in reading a book can take you on an adventure too.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful Classic Movie
This movie I first watched when I was 6. My mom was a nanny for a boy and he brought it over one afternoon. We watched it, and I LOVED it. Over the years, I wondered what that movie was that I had seen and I have asked the boy, now a teen if he remembered it. He did, but didn't know the name. The only part I could distinctly remember was the change for real life to animation. I remember loving the entire film and parts of the adventure. One day, while scrolling around on amazon.com, I discovered ... Read More
