The story finds a group of catty, competitive friends destroying reputations at social gatherings. The dialogue sparkles, Joan Crawford's performance as a husband stealer is still a classic, the film looks wonderful in Cukor's hands, and the Technicolor fashion-show scene is a one-of-a-kind Hollywood experience. --Tom Keogh Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Original is betterIn this case, old is definitely better! I had seen this movie several times on TV, but had missed scenes that had been cut for commercials (i.e., fashion show in color, while the rest of the movie was in b&w). Although the new version of this movie is up-to-date in its views of women, the original was definitely more "catty." Dont bother seeing the remake its absolutely terrible. But this is a classic with Joan Crawford as Crystal Allen, the seductress and man stealer! You cant go wrong with this movie. This is a must have in any series movie buff's collection. Rating: - Better than the new versionOf course the original is better than the remake. The Women is a classic movie which shows the level of class (or lack of) women had back in the 30's. The fashion was fabulous! The remake does this movie NO justice Rating: - great memories!a movie I watched as a child and waited years to find. I have not seen the remake but this one will be hard to beat! thanks Amazon! Rating: - Before their timeThis has always been one of my favorite movies. You have to remember that it was filmed in 1939 and considering "women" were not big stars..men were the draw for the time. There is not a man in site. You don't even hear a male voice...I was amazed that it could be pulled off. great movie! |
