Kai is dying (well, he's already dead, but he's running out of fuel), and they search the library for help. Unfortunately the library is more interested in expanding its collection via the memories of its visitors, even if it has to suck the brains out of their bodies to do it. Tim Curry costars as Poet Man, a cocky hologram tour guide miffed that he was left behind during the evacuation (all because of a splitting hangover), and Ellen Dubin returns as the cannibal queen Giggerota, an unwelcome Lexx stowaway who can't decide whether to feast on the living brains in the hold of the ship or team up with them in a hijacking scheme. The TV film was originally titled Super Nova for reasons that become obvious as the planet's dying sun moves toward its final burst of glory. It's an impressive effect, one of the highlights of a show that often gets stuck in talky, static scenes. This episode is kind of a letdown compared to the action-packed first episode, but it's not without its charms (like Zev's gratuitous R-rated shower scene--hubba hubba!). The next in the series is "Eating Pattern." --Sean Axmaker Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - what have they done to this great series?I just loved the LEXX mini-series back in the days, so I got it on VHS as soon as it was released over here in Germany. Sadly, I had to find out those tapes contained versions of the movies that were quite heavily cut - something only too common for German releases. You might be surprised, but censorship on movies is really rigid in Germany. Even movies that are being released as NC-17 are very often cut-down versions. The latest example being "Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Beginning", which will ... You really can't understand these movies without knowledge of German language. I really wonder who was that genius who decided it is not possible to hear original english speech and soundtrack. Only dubbed German is available. 20 eur to the trash - wham! Rating: - I thought this was as good as the other episodes in the first season. I agree with the other reviewers who mention a bit of confusion, but there are SF ideas a plenty, decent acting performances by all and a good balance of farcical situations and tight story telling. Although the suspense gets monotonous in places and there are small anachronisms, like the gears on the "burst of life" machine, the visual effects are mostly served up with care. Admittedly, developing a crush on Eva Habermann/Zev may have biased my review somewhat. Rating: - Weakest of the initial 4 "movies"I guess it's a matter of personal taste but I cared less for this full length LEXX(93 min) than any of the other 3. I WORSHIP HIS SHADOW and GIGA SHADOW could be viewed back to back for story continuity. EATING PATTERN comes across like an individual adventure, complete in itself and better for it. TALES...with Tim Curry seems to drag alot; the pacing is slow and the last third goes on forever with the coming supernova. Thankfully no other LEXX venture repeats this tedious ... Read More |
