Michael Nesmith is often overlooked as the country rock pioneer that he was, due in large part to his role in the Monkees. It was evident by the Monkees last album (Head) that Nesmith was a real musician stuck in the bad situation of a contrived boy band. It you don't believe me just listen to the song "Circle Sky".
