The kit comes with a relatively easy-to-assemble observation chamber; supplies for feeding the butterflies (you provide only sugar and water); an informative booklet of clear instructions and butterfly facts; and a certificate for three to five free painted lady caterpillars. The metamorphosis from larva to butterfly takes about three weeks from when you receive the caterpillar larvae (which arrive in a small container with all the nutrients they need). Your children can watch the larvae increase dramatically in size, form chrysalides, and finally emerge into full-fledged painted ladies (it's suggested that they release the butterflies after a few days of observation).  Rating:  - Very coolI bought one of these for my 4 year old God-daughter and one for my 14 year old daughter. They both loved them. A very creative gift. Rating: - Educational product well worth the money!This product is great! My kids and I look forward to seeing the catepillars grow everyday. You get everything that you need to raise catepillars to adult butterflies. I would recommend getting this one over the one that is sold on TV. The one on tv only comes with 1 container of catepillars, this one comes with 2 and the pavillion is bigger. This product is a wonderful educational opportunity for children & adults. Rating: - Butterfly gardenThis container for hatching butterflies looks great, but haven't used it yet since I'm waiting for the caterpillars to arrive. The cost seems high for such a simple item, and the caterpillars are extra. I imagine I will use it every year as a classroom teacher if it wears as well as it looks. I think, however that they either need to include more food in the little cups, should make the cups wider, or they should put food more in the center so their frass doesn't restrict their access to food as much (most of the frass accummulates around the edges of the cup). Read More Rating: - Bug boys birthday presentThis is the only thing my son wanted for his seventh birthday. The caterpillar people let me schedule the delivery so that the caterpillars arrived just a couple of days before his birthday. The are all alive and growing SO fast. He is fascinated with them, and has started a butterfly bush for them. Of course these will chrysalize long before the bush is grown, but I plan to order more caterpillars once these are grown into butterflies and we can have this fun all summer.
