![]() Rating: - Twangy, funny, smart, killer guitars... a classic. This is possibly the 97's best & a must have in the alt country genre. Back before they signed a major label deal & descended into pop rock radio fare these guys made a few records that had brains, soul spirit & twang to spare. Don't hesitate... it'll make you smile & forget all the bands that tried to follow. Rating: - One of the top alt.country albums...must haveIf you're an alt.country fan and you don't own this album, then what the heck is wrong with you? This ranks up there with any of Uncle Tupelo's albums, though certainly different, but equally as good. I knew little about the 97's when I bought this album. The fiddle on Hands Off soars....it reminds of the fiddle music the Dead used on Wake of the Flood. Rhett's singing is less varnished than the later efforts....but always to good effect. CD is worth owning just to hear his enunciation of "lizard boots" Rating: - an absolute must havethis is probably one of my all time favorite albums. i have to take it with me on the road... there is nothing like driving, windows down and singing "wish the worst" or "if my heart was a car" at the top of your lungs. all the songs are quite catchy and bring out the instant twang in any would-be texan. Rating: - I wish I had found this sooner >>This is my favorite CD. I never thought I'd find anything even remotely country I would like. I like mostly Classical, rock, and metal. The songs are all original. On this CD, there are 3 songs that are outstanding, (Miss Molly, Doreen, and Mama Tried) and the rest are really good. For owners of the Old 97s' newer CDs this one is not the same. The newer ones are more like pop, this one has a definite country/bluegrass influence, but without being country per se. It's hard to explain. Read More |
