Editorial Review:
Long recognized as role-playing games par excellence, the Final Fantasy series gets a technological makeover in this installment (and series debut on the PlayStation). Shedding the two-dimensional graphics and limited sound capabilities of its predecessors, Final Fantasy VII features lush 3-D graphics, beautifully animated "movie" sequences, and soundtrack-quality music. Coupled with the game's intricate storyline, endearing characters, and immense yet highly imaginative world, these new advancements make for a quite an engrossing experience.

The story of Final Fantasy VII centers around a solider named Cloud Strife, who joins forces with Avalanche, a group of resistance fighters, to take down an evil mega-corporation known as Shinra. (The fate of the world hangs in the balance, of course.) Truly epic in scope, this four-disc game requires a considerable amount of time to complete---this reviewer gladly gave up over 80 hours of his life to finish it. But it's definitely a rewarding adventure that every PlayStation owner should consider undertaking, especially since it's now one of the low-priced "Greatest Hits" titles. --Joe Hon

Pros:
  • Intricate and absorbing storyline with endearing characters
  • Immense and highly imaginative game world
  • Special battle system
  • Beautifully animated movie sequences

Cons:
  • Your friends and family may feel neglected

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If you listn to the negative reviews, you're stupid...
Well, what can i say about this game. It is the best rpg ever spawned on the face of the earth. Not only does it have some of the greatest and most charismatic characters ever created in video game history, it has one of the most emotion, heartfelt, and greatest storylines of all-time. The relationships, the parallelism to real-life, over all makes it a top-ten game, also has one of the greatest operatic soundtracks ever. Square Enix truly makes great games, but this by far is the greatest, it will ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Son loved it
My son asked for this for Christmas, got it, played it and didn't do a lot of his chores because of it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The most amazing game ever
This game is the best game ever made. The graphics aren't that bad, the storyline is great, the gameplay is great, and it offers hours of fun.The game is massive and somewhat detailed. I would definitely recommend it to anybody. However, $80 is a bit too expensive, in my opinion.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Orgasmic, this game is Perfection!!!
FF7 is possibly one of the best games I(as an RPG fan) have ever played. This game is full of action, great character development, and contains a plot full of suspense and thrill. I would highly recommend this game to any RPG player, as it is hands down the greatest FF game to be.

The overall graphics of the game are nothing to be excited about by today's standards, but at the time, this game was top of the line. The fighting style was similar to most previous Final Fantasy games, with ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - QUITE good!
I'll admit, the first time I ever played this game, I wasn't that into it. The main reason was that there, in my opinion, too many damn mini-games that were kinda hard (I STILL can't figure out how to get in line with the soldiers at the parade in I think Junon). Also, the music, while very emotional, is very very sad. So is the story... it got a little depressing to me.

But that was the first time I played it. Now I'm playing it again (this is my third time and I just beat the game about ... Read More
