Brand: Tecmo EAN: 0018946010120 ESRB Age Rating: Teen Label: Tecmo Manufacturer: Tecmo Manufacturer Minimum Age: 156 months Platform: Sega Dreamcast Publisher: Tecmo Studio: Tecmo Editorial Review: Editorial Review: While you may not be familiar with the original Dead or Alive--a run-of-the-mill fighting game most famous for the bouncing breasts of its female combatants--the sequel Dead or Alive 2 is a major-league contender that ranks up there with genre giants (including Soul Calibur and the Tekken series). Dead or Alive 2 features drop-dead gorgeous visuals, with gracefully animated 3-D characters rendered in great (and in some cases, downright naughty) detail. Not merely scenic backdrops, the lavish 3-D arenas are also highly interactive: fighters get slammed and thrown against walls, and, in some cases, they can be thrown through windows and off ledges, with the camera viewpoint following the aggressor as he or she jumps down to the lower level of the arena to continue the punishment. A game that plays as good as it looks, Dead or Alive 2 sports a rich combat system that's heavy on the counterattacks. Gameplay moves along at a blazingly fast pace, and the simple controls are easy to pick up on and make executing combo moves a breeze; this is a brawler that both button-mashers and hardcore gamers will enjoy. Unlike other fighting games which contain hidden features that must be "unlocked," Dead or Alive 2 pretty much lays all its cards out on the table from the start. There are 12 fighters to choose from (each with at least one alternate costume) and seven modes of play are available (including tag battle mode and a two-on-two battle royal that up to four players can join). --Joe Hon Pros:

![]() Rating: - Pretty fun game. This game plays a lot like Virtua fighter but goes quite a bit further in visuals. DOA2 is the real turning point in the series with great design and framerate. Well worth the price. Give it a try. Rating: - XBox owners Beware !After playing DOA Ultimate for Xbox, people may be tempted to buy this version for Dreamcast. Don't bother, this version for Dreamcast is extremely boring. It has zero replay value. This game is garbage compared to the better Xbox versions. Other Dreamcast games that are 100 times better: Virtua Fighter 3, Soul Calibur, and Project Justice. These 3 games are excellent and are only available on Dreamcast. Rating: - DEAD OR ALIVE: THE OVERVIEWdead or alive 2 is a great game! it has awesome graphics and tons of players and fighting moves to choose from. although the game (to me) is a bit short in story mode, as all of the players i believe have 8 levels and always have the same boss(evil tengu), it makes up for it with its multiple modes and great multi player action. there are also many cheats for this game. you'll soon learn that each character has different statistics and some characters are better than others.it is worth what you pay. Rating: - Good but not great.DOA2 is a fun game to play with friends that can play it also. First off the game has NO extras. That in itself is disappointing! Secondly, the single player game [...] BIG time. As a result the team battles and versus battles with friends are all you will have to hang on to. These 2 flaws really killed the game for me. I love extras and a good single player mode since I can't have friends over everyday. On the plus side, the graphics are great and ... Read More Rating: - Collisions badly handled, too little variety, but solid game1) Be forewarned that the graphics are a little "lazy" - the collisions are handled fairly poorly, so that fabric, hands, legs, etc all overlap and slide into each other pretty much all the time. Body parts do not stop when they hit body parts. 2) Be forewarned that characters, costumes, and backgrounds are limited -- I'm spoiled by having dozens of characters and arenas... the limited variety in DOA2 is frustrating. Otherwise solid game... And, hey, do not make the mistake of ... Read More |
