But rock-rap workouts like "One Step Closer" and "Papercut" do make Linkin Park a comfortable fit with Fred Durst and his ilk. Producer Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam, Lit, Eve 6) and twin vocal threats Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda serve up industrial-strength rap and rock melodicism with equal aplomb on this woulda-been-self-titled debut effort. "Points of Authority" aims to sound like Trent Reznor wanking it up with Lars and company, whereas guitarist Brad Delson's Edge-y harmonics help "In the End" and "Pushing Me Away" evoke a dark romanticism akin to A Perfect Circle. Curiously, the band gets by with no bass player, while sample-happy DJ Joseph Hahn's step into the spotlight on the instrumental "Cure for the Itch" suggests a potential for eclecticism that could help Linkin Park outlive its seemingly transient genre. --Bill Forman Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Got my Skin Crawling...Linkin Park is one of very few alternative rock groups i listen to, I'm mostly a Hip Hop and R&B person, but Linkin Park does a lil rapping which is why I listened to them in the first place, but ever since I have always loved Linkin Park...they're kind of EMO (which i hate) but they are extremely catchy and they make good music. I bought this album way back in 2002, and ever since I still listen to it (not as often) but every time I listen to this CD i just feel strong for some stupid reason. All ... I just listen to whatever sounds good in my opinion. Linkin Park is a band that I love and can't get enough of. Hybrid Theory offers a great mix of rap and metal that gives a great harmonic sound. Unlike other bands that have mixed rap and metal(Limp Bizkit), this music is not about stupid things like nookie. The songs generally talk about our complicated lives that we all live every day. Songs like "I'm ... Read More Rating: - Undeniably catchySo nearly eight years after its release, Hybrid Theory is still going strong. It is true that some of the lyrics may seem immature or generic, a good example being 'One Step Closer.' This album was directed towards teenagers so we'll ignore that flaw. But, the really special thing about this album is that you can listen to the whole thing without having to skip any song. Each song is catchy and listenable and this is one of the only albums I know that I don't have to skip any songs. Now I am a big ... Read More Rating: - a great CD with the dumbest first single!"One Step Closer" was a bad choice for a 1st single, artistically speaking; it sounded (and still sounds, IMO) generic as heck, to put it simply. I didn't feel a great desire to own this CD until I heard "Crawling" for the first time on the radio. After school I went to my local CD store and got it. Just about every song on this CD is great except for the one song. The CD opens with a harrowing melody and blasts off from there (then takes a very short break...). Very dramatic and melodic stuff, ... Read More |
