It's nice to be able to see through it so we don't have to lift the lid constantly to check on the food. Great value. It seems that while the curved side of the skillet arcs down to the base directly from the edge, the lid has a lip that is more or less perpendicular to its edge - an incompatible state of affairs. In fact my parents still own their original set that was a wedding gift over 40 years ago. They are still in great shape. The black has faded a bit but not one handle has broken or cracked. I purchased three sizes of these glass lids and have been using them for almost a year now. I love them. They fit just right. I dont know why so many reviews say the lids dont fit.
