Amazon.com Product Description:
Is your car's check engine light on? If it is, your car is trying to tell you something and the Actron CP9135 OBD II AutoScanner speaks its language. Use this scanner to unlock the information stored in your car's computer. The scanner is compatible with all OBD II (On-Board Diagnosis II) compliant vehicles manufactured in North America, Asia, and Europe from 1996 to the present.

The Actron CP9135 easily scans and retrieves DTCs. View details.

Read and erase trouble codes with "hot keys."

Turn off that distracting "check engine" light.
In addition, the CP9135 is fully updateable, so it is designed to accommodate future vehicles as well. The device features a large, easy-to-read liquid crystal display that shows the trouble code and its definition. And although you still have to fix the problem, the scanner will deactivate the "check engine" light on your dash so you'll no longer be distracted while you drive.

The CP9135 is simple and easy to use. The attached OBD II 16-pin connector cable provides both data and power connections, while the eight-foot cable and rugged housing are both oil- and grease-resistant for added durability. Once the scanner is connected, the extremely user friendly menu provides a variety of information in a snap. Use the Monitor Status and I/M Readiness (Inspection/Maintenance) function to determine if your vehicle is ready for an emissions test. The I/M Readiness is an excellent function to use prior to having a vehicle inspected for compliance to a state emissions program, so you'll have a good idea if your vehicle will pass the standards.

Another important thing to remember is that all emission testing facilities will fail a vehicle that has the "check engine" light illuminated at the time of the test--even if it is only lit to remind you of a past-due oil change or 60,000-mile tune-up. With this scanner, you can shut off the check engine light and pass the emissions test on your terms. The menu also alerts you of any pending DTCs and reads the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) status. By reading the MIL status the scanner gives insight into what might cause your "check engine" light to turn on in the near future. In this way, the scanner also provides some preventive measures to help you keep a close eye on your vehicle's systems. These functions, combined with the simple "hot keys" used to read and erase DTCs, make the CP9135 scanner a perfect solution for identifying problems with your vehicle and keeping you safe on the road.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Does the job - was DOA, but fix was simple
I would have given this five stars, but mine was dead on arrival (DOA). Operating these devices is very simple. You just plug it into the OBDII receptacle under your dash and it should instantly display the opening menu. Mine did not, so rather than return it, I removed the four assembly screws and opened it up. I was looking for a cold solder or disconnected wire. What I found was that the processor chip was simply not seated in its socket. I gently pressed it in and closed the case. Problem ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Big money saver!!
Recently my check engine light came on in my 2002 Toyota Highlander. This has been the third or fourth occurance since purchasing the vehicle as new. The Auto Scanner accurately diagnosed the code and saved me $89.95 in diagnostic fees at the dealership. The service writer still tried to pressure me into having the diagnostics run, but I stood firm and refused the service. Having the scanner is a real confidence booster when taking your vehicle in for service.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Workable
Bought the reader a month ago, use it regularly as I'm still fighting trouble codes on my 2000 VW
The code descriptions are very basic, you could easily find them (descriptions) online or at an Autozone, so now I think it would have been a good idea to buy the smaller, pocketable model, with the very basic features, thus saving $30 and storage space in your car.
As of the reader itself - it works perfectly, menus are intuitive and convenient.. the only reason I'm giving 4 stars - my personal ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Autoscanner Works
This is a no frills device that does exactly what the box says. I was able to pull the code from the car, diagnose the problem ( in this case, replace the thermostat ) and then reset the codes. The repair cost me less than $20. I am not sure how much a automotive shop would have charged but I am willing to bet I came out cheaper. And that was the first time I used the scanner.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Exactly what you want.
Plug it in, turn the ignition to on, and in about 10 seconds you'll be able to see the codes.

Press a couple of buttons, the check engine light goes out.

Everything should work this simply. Will easily pay for itself with a couple of uses.
