The plastic began to rip/tear the first week; however, I am removing the plastic as they rip. The tambourines are still a nice addition to our music section without the plastic. The children simply love to play them, and they are used all day long every day. The plastic is not necessary. Rating: - Great for the toddler setI bought a pair of these, along with assorted other noisemakers/instruments, to amuse toddlers at a Christmas party. I was pleased by the overall sturdiness of these tambourines, and they have a decent sound (not great.) My son enjoys banging them. An added bonus -- they are relatively small and light, so my son does less damage than he might with a real, wooden tambourine, when he bangs something other than his hand.
