Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Bland.
All the drama around its release aside -- the presence of real-sounding drums, the full-blown synthpop, etc. -- this album doesn't have any standout tracks at all. "Chrome" was OK the first time I listened to it, but its gotten worse with every listen; the lyrics are mediocre, the synths are bad, and the bridge is a full minute (of a song that's only 4:41!) of a simple beat with an annoying melody over top. "Arena" is about 2 minutes too long, and it just meanders through the same happy drivel ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - And the point is?
Via Google, I've seen VNV's lyrics turn up on (gah) white-power websites, and libertarian ones, and religious ones, and ones that simply respect the individual's prerogative to find his or her own way. "Victory, Not Vengeance" is the perfect encapsulation of their message. It can mean whatever we want it to mean: we wouldn't want vengeance, but at the same time, victory over what?

That's both part of their gift and part of their curse. The lyrics are so drenched in Biblical and satirically ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Different and amazing.
It's reallly amazing when a musical endeavour such as VNV Nation can take what they began with and build on it not by "bigger and better", but in some cases softer, slower, and more emotional through lessened power.

I won't go into individual tracks with this review; all I will say is that Matter+Form takes the VNV you know and puts it somewhere far away, which in all honesty is what it most likely will do to you. Beautiful harmonies are to be found even in the more "classic"-sounding VNV, and ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent
This VNV Nation album is awesome, but all of their albums are awesome too. The music and the lyrics are great in Form + Matter and I highly recommend it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - This is not industrial.
This is a synthpop music. If you're looking for the hard-edged sound in Praise the Fallen, or Empires, try Front Line Assembly or Infected Mushroom. This album (much like Futureperfect) is mostly pop music. It is an entirely different style for VNV Nation, but it's one of the best damn synthpop albums I've heard. I really like all the song, except for one: Entropy. Even the lyrics, which VNV usually excells with, are bland in this song. Listen to the samples first, and if it's the kind of thing you're into, ... Read More
