Amazon.com Product Description: The Omron HEM-609 Portable Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with IntelliSense is a compact wrist unit that is designed to go anywhere. This monitor is incredibly easy to use -- simply wrap the cuff around your wrist and press start. The built-in cuff fits wrist sizes 5.25 to 8.5 inches in circumference. In seconds, your blood pressure and pulse readings are displayed on the large digital panel. Proven time and time again, Omron's IntelliSense technology ensures accurate, clinically-proven, and comfortable readings. And with a 14 memory recall you can track your blood pressure and pulse progress as you work towards a healthier lifestyle.
There are several easy steps to taking your blood pressure with this monitor. First of all, avoid eating, smoking, and exercising for at least 30 minutes before taking a measurement. Stress raises blood pressure, so avoid taking measurements during stressful times. Also, measurements should be taken in a quiet place. You should be in a relaxed, seated position with your feet flat on the floor. Before you take your measurement, rest comfortably in a relaxed environment for at least 15 minutes. Place the cuff over your left wrist with your left thumb facing upwards. Position the unit leaving approximately 0.5-inches of space between the edge of the cuff and your palm. Pull the cuff upward while holding the edge of the wrist cuff and wrap snugly. Make sure to lightly press the Velcro closure with your fingers so that it is fastened tightly. Using your elbow as an axis point, slowly raise your left hand at an angle towards your right shoulder. Stop your movement when the heart mark is aligned with the arrow symbol. When your wrist reaches the proper position, the monitor beeps and automatically starts inflation and measurement. Hold your wrist at this position. Do not make any movements until the measurement results are displayed. Once the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate and your blood pressure and pulse rate will display on the screen. If you need to stop the measurement at any time, simply press the on/off button and the monitor will immediately deflate. And remember, always consult your physician for specific information about your blood pressure. What is IntelliSense? The IntelliSense monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use -- you never have to make any adjustments to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders because their blood pressure is so likely to fluctuate. The biggest advantage of using the IntelliSense technology is a personalized inflation, every time, for maximum comfort. The Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals all recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons. Home monitoring provides your healthcare professionals with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure. Many types of hypertension can only be detected by monitoring your blood pressure at home, including:
What's in the Box Omron HEM-609 wrist blood pressure monitor, storage case, two AA batteries, and instruction manual. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Grossly innacurateThis unit is convenient and easy to use. Unfortunately for Omron convenience is not the figure of merit where blood pressure monitors are concerned. I stupidly trusted this device and it has quite literally impacted my health. In my case it consistantly read 30 too low! Don't use this this device for anything but entertainment! Rating: - HEM-609 Wrist BP Monitor w/intellisenseIf all that I were to rate was the "ease of use", this blood pressure monitor would easily rate 4 stars - it is extremely easy to use. Unfortunately, it is VERY inaccurate when compared with a cuff that goes on the upper arm. The readings on the HEM-609 are always low (which would be nice if my BP were that low), but when they are compared to the readings in the doctor's office they are unsatisfactory. As a result, I bought another old-fashioned "hand-pump, read the dial with a stethoscope" ... Read More Rating: - Convenient but inaccurateI purchased this recently. Last week I took it to my doctor's office to compare with the readings that the doctor and nurse obtained with a traditional cuff. We did four or five comparisons, and the wrist BP monitor was not even in the same ballpark. It wasn't consistently high or low, just erratic. My doctor recommends an arm cuff over any wrist monitor, not just this model. Rating: - Not accurateThe readings are not true.....I made comparison at my doctors office. The wrist cuff does not capture my elavated blood presure. My doctor suggested that I continue to use a blood presure cuff. Rating: - The convenience counts!I've read the reviews that question this product's accuracy, and I don't have any scientific data to argue one way or the other, but to me it seems pretty accurate and consistent with the numbers I get with the arm cuff-rubber tube-hand pump-solenoid wire models. The big difference is convenience; this one doesn't require all that equipment to deal with, and it stores away in a plastic case about a fifth the size of my previous monitor. Because it's so compact, convenient, and easy to use, it stays out on ... Read More |
