They are a little rougher than the commercial towels, but I actually feel that they pick up messes better because they are rougher. I like the fact that they are recycled, and I haven't had any trouble tearing them off at the perforations. I also haven't needed to use more of the natural paper towels to clean up messes. I tried using reusable cloth, however I ended up washing them so often that they used more chemicals than just letting the paper biodegrade in landfills.
