Amazon.com Hands-On Review: Somewhere around four or five months, babies start to tune in more intently to the world around them. Meanwhile, those leg muscles just keep developing. Suddenly, lying around on a mat or sitting in a bouncy seat just doesn't cut it anymore. The Evenflo Classic Johnny Jump Up is, indeed, a classic. Your bouncing baby boy (or girl) will truly start bouncing! Who says exercise can't be fun? Just slide baby into the padded seat, making sure only his toes can touch the floor. He will immediately sense the spring action and start pushing off with his toes. Instant entertainment! Build on Baby's Milestones In addition to being a source of exercise and almost endless amusement, the Johnny Jump Up also contributes to the development of several important milestones. Gross Motor Skills The legs are pumping, the arms are waving, the head is bobbing baby doesn't know it, but he's working on his gross motor skills. Figuring out how to use those large muscles, then practicing and building their strength, is a key step in baby's development. Next thing you know, he'll be running and jumping and throwing balls! Cause and Effect "Hey, when I push down on the floor, I bounce! Let's see what happens when I push this way or that ?" Okay, the Johnny Jump Up won't get your kid speaking full sentences, or even his first word (unless it's "Wheee!"), but this is the gist of his thought patterns once he settles into the seat. Cause and effect is a nifty concept that your child will experiment with for the rest of his life, from dropping food off the high chair tray (gravity!) to seeing what happens when he grabs a toy from his friend (she doesn't like that!) to discovering whether his parents really mean it when they say his high school curfew is 10:00 p.m. (oops! They do.). Balance and Coordination Being upright must feel strange at first to someone who has spent the first few months of life lying in someone's arms or in a crib. It's going to take some work to figure out how to keep upright (although the Johnny Jump Up won't let him flop over, of course) and going in the direction he wants to go. He's going to have to find the floor with his toes, push away, then find it again and again, all the while keeping his torso strong. Whether the Johnny Jump Up is springing up and down or front to back or side to side, baby will go along with it, keeping his balance all the while. Easy to Install After assembling the seat and attaching the toy loops, pull open the clamp arms and hook them over any doorway trim that meets the size requirements (wall thickness must be 3 to 6 inches, and the flat surface on top of molding must be at least ½ inchand firmly attached. Do take these measurements seriously!). Slide baby into the padded seat, and watch his face light up as he discovers he has the power to make this thing move! Important Note to Parents Please don't let baby spin, swing, or sleep in the Johnny Jump Up, and read the instructions and warnings very carefully before using. --Emilie Coulter Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - What happened to the bounce? My other children loved jumping in their jumper but this one stinks! It doesn't go anywhere. My son can only jump as high as his little legs push him - he doesn't even get off the ground. It's as if they are trying to make it too safe for babies. They've taken all the bounce out of it. Boring! Rating: - Johnny Jump Up Fun!The Johnny Jump Up we purchased for our grandson is so much fun for him and for those of us who are watching him twirl and hop and swing around! Our son, now 31, had a Johnny Jump Up at 4 months and for several months he had great fun! We were so happy to see they are still made. I would highly recommend this item, making certain that the door frame from which you hang the jumper, is very sturdy and in good repair. The clamp for this item is very strong and heavy duty, providing good support for ... Read More Rating: - Loved it, and so did she!My fourth baby came 10 years after my last...my things have changed! All of my children had johnny jump ups, this one is even better! It was easy to put together and the straps are nicely kept away from the baby's face and neck, unlike the older versions. She absolutely loved it from the first time I put her in it ;O) The only concern I have is it is rather long for smaller babies. I have to keep pulling her arms up, and she uses it as her new teether toy. Would definately recommend this to parents ... Read More Rating: - Jump and jump and jump! Our own children LOVED this Johnny Jump Up... so it was only a matter of time before we NEEDED our grandson, Jonas, to experience the joy his dad and uncle did in this fun toy! Mounts easily and firmly to most common-sized doorways... easy to put him in and take him out. He enjoys sucking on the fabric covered bar... but it's also easy to clean...so not a biggie. :) Expect him to spend many hours hanging around in this baby. Momma can actually get some office work done while he's happily occupied a ... Read More |
