Pure Digital Connection The HD-XA1 connects to your HDTV with the latest advancement in audio/video equipment interfaces, namely the high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI). HDMI is the first industry-supported all digital audio/video connection providing the transmission of uncompressed digital video and multichannel audio on a single cable. The HD-XA1 will output HD content through the HDMI interface in the native format of the HD DVD disc content of 720p or 1080i. Standard DVDs Taken to an HD Level Enjoy backward-compatibility and play your collection of standard DVDs on the HD-XA1. Processing Prowess The HD-XA1 has far-from-ordinary built-in multichannel decoders for Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD (2 ch.) and DTS. The HD-XA1 employs four high-performance DSP engines to decode the multichannel streams of the wide array of audio formats. These 32-bit floating-point DSPs are world renowned for their high accuracy and are used in many high-quality audio solutions in the home theater market. The DSPs handle many of the required conversion processes, as well as the extensive on-board multichannel signal management for the HD-XA1, including user-selectable crossovers, delay management, and channel level management. After decoding and signal management, the digital audio is converted to analog by way of 24 bit/192kHz audio DAC and output as 5.1 analog audio. Digital Audio Output Options The HD-XA1 can pass digital information to a surround-sound processor/receiver with S/PDIF or HDMI. For Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks, the bitstream will be passed through both connections, just as in a standard DVD player with the same interfaces.  Rating:  - Great High Definition playerI've owned this player for over 1 1/2 years and after the initial firmware updates it has been flawless and even quicker to load now (which was one of it's largest drawbacks). I know you've read the so called complaints about it only out-putting 1080i signal, but if you have a quality 1080p HDTV it just de-interlaces the signal and you see a full 1080p picture anyway. I'd have given this 5 stars but it still is just a little slow to start-up, not real bad just slower then ... Read More Rating: - Long live HD DVD!It's sad, HD dvd has died a premature death.I don't think it was given a fair chance against Blu Ray( Warner Bros and Walmart saw to it).I always had this sneaky feeling that Toshiba knew the end was near and began to cut back on production costs(look at the company's HD-A35 as compared to HD-XA1,XA2).The HD-A35 was built to a price and it showed. As for the HD-XA1,pictures never did it justice.You must see it for real and you'll appreciate what the market is going to miss. Picture quality ... Read More Rating:  - Stay away!HD DVD is a dead format! Warner Brothers is going to stop producing HD DVD discs soon. Do a search and you will see many articles about this. The only studios that will be making HD DVD's are Paramount/Dreamworks and Universal. Disney, Buena Vista, Sony, Warner Brothers, New Line, MGM, and Lionsgate all release movies exclusively on Blu-ray. Do yourself a favor and avoid HD DVD players. Bad customer support. It's a waste of money. The lens goes bad after about a year and Toshiba is laughing all the way to the bank!! The discs dont work and Universal will do nothing for you. NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME. Rating:  - impressions of unitUnit looks very elegant, but It has a few hiccups like it will not play dual format disc the HD version,but it will play standard version.Go figure.Also rentals from netflix cross your fingers that they will play. |
