Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
The idea of remaking a John Ford classic as an all-star country-Western TV movie may seem blasphemous to Western fans, but this loose-and-lanky version of Stagecoach is surprisingly entertaining. While sticking close to the original plot (involving a cultural cross-section of passengers on a dangerous trip aboard the Overland Express stagecoach), this good-natured adaptation (from the original story by Ernest Lee Haycox and screenplay by Dudley Nichols) allows ample room for Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson to play off each other like the old friends they are. As directed by Ted Post (best known for helming Clint Eastwood's Hang 'Em High), the entire production has a light, friendly atmosphere, but the story remains earnestly well-served, and the cast (which also includes Elizabeth Ashley, Mary Crosby, Tony Franciosa, and Dukes of Hazzard alumnus John Schneider) thankfully avoids the in-joke frivolity that typically ruins all-star vanity projects like this one. It's obvious that Willie (as "Doc" Holliday) and his fellow musicians are playing thinly veiled versions of themselves, but they each bring their own legendary qualities to their roles. Gary Graver's cinematography adds to the inviting, outdoorsy warmth of the show, and with many of the cast no longer with us (including June Carter Cash in a cameo role, and Merritt Butrick from Star Trek II, who died of AIDS in 1989), this respectful rendition of Stagecoach is also a memorial to some of the most beloved talents of the 20th century. --Jeff Shannon

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not as good as the John Wayne Classic but ...
But, it was fun to see the "Highwaymen" together playing cowboys and indians. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristoferson, need there be any other reason to see this movie? Other than the title track there isn't any singing. If you want to see Stagecoach, get the John Ford, Duke Wayne's version ... if you'd like to see a remake of that classic, this is the one for you ... years ago Bing Crosby was in a remake of this classic ... This remake with the "Highwaymen" is the best ... Read More

Stagecoach (1986)...This movie is a definite must have for western lovers.Set in Arizona, this movie has action from gunfights with Geronimo to the outlaws in Lordsburg.Throw in a love plot for a retired saloon girl to delivering babies among stage stops and you have one heck of a movie. With an all star cast of Willie Nelson,John Schneider,Kris Kristofferson, the late great Johnny Cash, and the late great Waylon Jennings,to name a few,you can't go wrong with this movie. There is even a small cameo with the ... Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - a surprise..and a seredipity
I bought this to see the last film appearance of Lash LaRue...very short scene and about 2 lines. But, still Lash has that way about him. The movie itself was pretty good...surprise.The Kris/Willie/Waylon/Johnny crew made an album where they all dressed in black and featured the original Man in Black, Lash LaRue , on a great , back of the album picture.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fun Film
Great little gem of a movie starring the outlaws of country music. A lot of people are comparing this tv movie to that of the original starring John Wayne, there is no comparison. The original will always be a classic, and teamed legendary director John Wayne with The Duke.

But, for me it is hard not to like a film that stars Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. They all do a great job with their roles, and are backed up by a fine supporting cast which includes ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not a classic, but.....
Okay, it isn't on the par with John Ford's "Stagecoach" and Kris Kristoferson will never begin to get close to John Wayne's performance but it is a fun watch. There are some bits of repartee and a few lines that flat put me on the floor! Frankly, I think Elizabeth Ashley had one of the best lines in the movie, "Doc, it's a baby and a baby wants what he wants when he wants it." So true. Like I said, it will never win any awards, but when I need a good laugh and a smile, I enjoy this movie.
