![]() Rating: - Works As It ShouldI purchased this a few weeks ago when I noticed my camera's USB cable was missing. Since my (older) computer does not have any card slots, I bought this. I believe it is a 19-in-one card reader so one can read many, many different types of cards. It has worked as it should and so far I've not really had any problems. I did try to insert my digital camcorder's memory card into this, but for some reason I could not get those images/videos to load into my computer. I still have to do some ... I find that the device doesn't teach the operating system (Vista for me) the name/ style (SD/CD/MM, etc) of each slot, like an earlier Kensington one did. Still, the range of available connections works, and once there's a card in one, the directory shows you the drive in place. Rating: - Cannot Read 8GB CF Cards!! Only Reads 4GB and Below. This was a total surprise, but I confirmed it versus another card reader. I have a perfectly good 8 GB CF card that works well in my Canon D5 camera and a very cheap $3.75 CF USB card reader. Now that technology has moved forward to higher capacity flash memory cards, this one is stuck with a 4 GB limit -- essentially garbage and way overpriced at that. One of the problems I'd had with my old computer with an integrated media reader was getting down on the floor to insert some of the tiny media into their respective drive slots. I have this external reader sitting on top of my computer and with the cable extension can lift it up and install the media in the slots while sitting in my chair. ... I DO know it is far better than the one from K-Mart that simply got as hot as a toaster oven when I plugged it in, then refused to recognize any media... |
