- simplisticA little bit goofy, a refreshing sense of humour, but not a lot of in-depth information. Good for a teenager, perhaps--but not especially informative for a well-read adult. Rating: - Very informativeI read it from cover to cover and ready to do it again. I was amazed at how much I did not know ( forgot from biology in H.S ) Very pleased that I purchased it. I have people ready to borrow it. Rating: - Buy it.Simply amazing. it's only books like that from which you can learn things medical facts in such open minded way. Rating: - Do You Know More About Your Body Than Your Cell Phone? There are 2 reasons why I chose to read this book. Dr. Oz on The Oprah Show has gotten the public to openly talk about the function of their body parts in ways that many didn't dare even think about - let alone allow themselves to be free to talk about. Also, while sitting at a JuicePlus presentation, I found it interesting that everyone kept talking about how much we need to add fruits and vegetables in our diet, but no one talked about assessing what we are eating now, how our body functions, and the fundamental things we must do to honor being on earth. They seemed to be sold, without question, as though they are at church, and not free to challenge the beliefs. In "You: The Onwer's Manual," this and more is discussed. Questions are asked, allowing you to have those "Ah hah" moments. I particularly like that from the beginning to the last page this book is written in a way that talks to my soul, and truly makes me have belly laughs, while I hone my "body maintenance skills," if you will. I recommend this book as a great source amongst books about living fully. Rating: - YOUR BODY UNDERSTANDABLE This delightful 544-page book begins with a quiz, "How Well Do You Know Your Body?" It continues with how blood is pumped throughout your body, how your brain works, how your body moves, how you breathe, how food is digested, how your immune system works, and how sexual and sensory organs work. This updated edition of the book includes the quiz along with a new chapter on the liver and pancreas, which describes the function and purpose of each. The authors also debunk popular myths about the body. The contents include: Preface Chapter 1: Your Body, Your Home: Super Health Chapter 2: The Beat Goes On: Your Heart and Arteries Chapter 3: Do You Mind: Your Brain and Nervous System Chapter 4: Motion Control: Your Bones, Joints, and Muscles Chapter 5: To a Lung and Healthy Life: Your Lungs Chapter 6: Gut Feelings: Your Digestive System Chapter 7: In Your Trunk: Your Liver and Pancreas Chapter 8: Sex Marks the Spot: Your Sexual Organs Chapter 9: Common Sense: Your Sensory Organs Chapter 10: Sick Sense: Your Immune System Chapter 11: This Gland is Your Gland: Your Hormones Chapter 12: Hell Cells: Cancer Chapter 13: The Owner's Manual Diet Chapter 14: The Owner's Manual Workout Chapter 15: FAQs Index This book is both instructive and entertaining. It includes a large (70-page) chapter on diet, which has over 30 recipes. The diet really emphasizes keeping your body healthy and young. The book also has a 24-page chapter, "Owner's Manual Workout", which provides easy-to-do exercises. This is a great book that makes understanding the human body accessible to those without a degree in physiology. Another favorite of mine is THE 3:00 PM SECRET: Live Slim and Strong, Live Your Dreams.
