- Great bookRead with an open mind. I picked it up 6 months ago expecting fluff chick lit and have been a non-smoking vegan ever since. Rating: - It's a Book About VeganismThis book is not about dieting or being skinny, it's about veganism...period...the end. The book offers no other altneratives. They should name it "How to Be a Vegan" or "Good Meal Suggestions for Vegan Eating". This book goes beyond vegetarianism and shuns milk, eggs, yogurt, cheese, etc. If you don't like being yelled out (there is a lot of that in this book), and you are not interested in being a vegan, then don't get this book.I should have read more into the title, but I thought the name was just a marketing ploy to get more attention. It's not. Almost the entire book is a rant w/ some source material referenced to support the author's rant. On the plus side, for those interested in veganism, this book offers many pages of vegan product suggestions. Rating: - Great information!Great message about the vegan diet, plus all of my stomach ailments are gone since having read and applied the guidelines in the book. Rating: - An excellent book with a misunderstood conceptIn response to some of the more negative reviews, I felt compelled to write with my undying support for this book. Whilst I agree that the title is misleading, the goal of the book is to inform readers of why a holistic lifestyle can greatly improve health, and subsequently weight will be lost. As someone with a slender frame who was suffering from headaches, anxiety and tiredness I was inspired by the suggestions made in the book and guess what, within my first week of a vegan lifestyle at least 6 people commented on how well I looked. My headaches are gone and I am full of energy. The book not only covers the ethical reasons for eating healthy but also the chemical ones, the claim aspartame was rejected numerous times for approval by the FDA can be verified with a quick Google search and backed up by the fact it is banned in all children's products in Europe! Yes, of course we need protein but I get mine through vegan soy shakes, nuts, beans and various vegetables which are also laden with natural vitamins and minerals. Vegans who do not pay attention to what they eat and become unhealthy are comparable to people who eat take out and become unhealthy. There are many vegan/health books on the market but I would recommend this one for it's easy interface, entertaining narrative and small size. 6 stars!! It has truly changed my life for the better. I not only feel healthier but can rest easy that no critters are being hurt for my feeding needs. Rating: - Read this book if you want to be informedFirst off, I've read some of the reviews here and feel a little clarification is in order. The authors of this book are, indeed, former models. One reviewer then went on to say that they are not qualified to write this book. Well, it turns out that one of the authors has a MASTERS degree in Holistic Nutrition. Hmm... unqualified indeed. This book is great. It's meant to be shocking, eye opening and thought provoking. It's a real look into the life of a factory farmed animal. They are pumped full of hormones, antibiotics and god-knows-what-else and then fed to humans. Gross! There have been TONS of books written about this fact- it's no secret- this book serves as a compilation of all of those facts and it's told in a humorous, no-nonsense way. It's an easy read and it makes you think. While I don't necessarily follow the "diet plan" of the book, it did inspire me to go vegan (after being vegetarian for 7 years). There is nothing good about the meat and dairy industry and it is not something that I want to support. Before having read this book, I had never actually considered the life of a dairy cow or a egg-laying hen. Thanks to this book, I am more informed about the food choices I make. People looking for the "get thin quick" diet plan should not consider this book. This is a book about a lifestyle change.
