- Skinny BitchThe writing is so easy to read (and hilarious). The authors deliver important messages about the food we put into our bodies in a easy to understand manner. This book will definitely help you make important changes to the fuel we give our bodies and make you question what the food industry is marketing. Read this if you care about your health and especially the health of your kids. The bonus, you cut out junk (most of it poison) and you reduce your body weight! Rating: - This book ROCKS!I read this book cover to cover twice. I am not a vegan or a vegetarian. I've researched a lot of nutrition information over the years due to my own or family members' health issues. This book is so in your face! I loved it! Beyond PC and any psuedo "sensibility" offenses, this book gives real good info, with a much needed kick in the b**t! I could list several more very reputable resources that corroborate the scientific info. And the menu suggestions are great! Buy the boxed set. For under $20, it's a great bargain for hard backs. Rating: - The truth hurtsAs a Registered Dietitian, who has studied nutrition extensively for over a decade, I read this book ready to criticize any and every aspect I disagreed with. However, I must say this book was well done and presents many truths in a very harsh, in-your-face manner. I understand the emotion that drives many of the negative reviews because from my career experience I have discovered people can become quite offended when they are told that certain foods they love are not good for optimal health. I also understand how some of the profanity in the book may be offensive to some. As to the reviewers who claim there is no basis in science, I must disagree. The majority of the food and nutrition claims made in this book have indeed been verified scientifically. My biggest criticism would be the emphasis on "skinny = healthy". We know this is certainly not always true. Who doesn't know a really skinny person who eats junk all the time? And who doesn't know that some people naturally have larger frames? Although the authors are careful to make disclaimers that healthy is more important than skinny, and being anorexic is definitely undesirable, there is a repeated emphasis on "being skinny". This book is an easy read and quite a motivator for those who feel compassion towards the other animal species that share the planet with us. As an RD, I must admit to the comment made in this book that the dairy industry (and the meat industry I may add) have an enormous influence in the field of dietetics (exs: food guide pyramid, national school lunch program, WIC...). For personalized nutrition counseling you can rely on, find an RD who understands holistic nutrition and practices what she or he preaches. Rating: - Great Book!I really enjoyed reading this book. It was funny, yet informative. What an eye opener!!! Has great tips on things to eat. As well as guides to use for shopping. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be healthy! This is a great way and it makes you feel great and not sluggish! :) Rating: - Informative read - very pro vegetarian lifestyleI learned a lot about how meat is prepared and it completely grossed me out (which was the intention of the writers). I'm glad I read it but now I'm rethinking meat eating (again the intention of the writers). This is a very good book if you are seriously revising your food intake and diet. While it does emphasize losing weight it goes about it by introducing the reader to a healthier way of living/eating. It was an easy read as well.
