- Great readI purchased this for my father for his birthday. Its a wonderful reminder to let the ones we love know we love them EVERYDAY. Rating: - Not quite what I expectedThis book had received rave reviews from acquaintances ... but I admit, it was more of a personal "how I got to this point in my life review than I had realized it would be. Rating: - unique man, teacher, father, and husbandRandy was a remarkable man and I treasure the book, his story. I have given this book as a gift to friends and family. It is worth every cent you spend to purchase it. Rating: - This book helped meThe Last Lecture This book gives you opportunity to re-value you life and your goals, look at your actions differently and motivates you to live positive and enjoy your life. I would highly recommend this book. Rating: - another case of the emperor's new clothesWe read this for my book club and I was excited to read it as I had heard it was very inspirational, if sad. I found it to be an easy read and finished it in a day. It was entertaining enough but there was absolutely nothing in it that hasn't been said a million times before in similar small, hard-cover books. I thought it was pretty trite - I lost my mother three months ago and expected to be bawling the whole time, but none of his "great insights" really affected me that much. Frankly, Dr. Pausch struck me as rather self-absorbed and I would think that if you wanted to leave something of yourself for your children you could probably find a way to accomplish that that wouldn't take up as much of your time as writing and promoting this book probably did. There's a lot of hype about this book but count me among the people who are just not getting it. The hype, that is - I get the book. I just don't think it's telling me anything I didn't already know.
