Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Game
This game, along with FFVII, is a break away from the usual storyline (something's wrong with the crystals that control the elements). It's got a cyber tech feel to it, that, strangely, goes well with swords and magic. I also like the love story going on, even though this "soap opera" is what most people complained about. The art direction is also differnt from most, and the charachters look more real than in all previous FFs (Except, again, 7), even though they're all sprites in the previous ones. Of all the final fantasy games I've played, I liked this one the best. It's too bad that Squaresoft isn't sticking with this for the next few FFs. While the junction and GF systems are a little odd, and may through off some people, me and alot of my friends liked it. One thing I didn't like was the card game (which they're keeping in 9), but it's easily avoided.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Ummm...
This game probably is the most pointless game ever. It almost seems as if Square cobbled together random characters, a random plot, and random music and put in good graphics. whats the point? for example, theres this one part about this guy called NORG. He pops up from nowhere for no reason and chooses that momemt to attack the garden, for no particular reason. Like I said, random. And the music. So theres Eyes on me. ev erything else is lame! the battle theme is practically the same note over and over again! and the gaurdian forces. What are they? I mean, in FF7, they come from the planet, and in FF8, even though they play such a large role, you dont even know what they are! And you have to fight them to get them. Sounds a lot like a rip-off of another bad game that starts with the letters Poke-...RIP-OFF! And the Junctioning. Okay, there really is no point. By the end of the game, all your magics are useless, and the only thing worth using are GFs. And your stats go down when using magic? As for the final boss...Disc 1-makes no appearance...disc 2-makes no appearance...disc three-I think I heard her name once or twice...-disc 4-Some guy goes -shes evil. fight her for no reason at all. I mean, what kind of evil mind creates a boss that doesnt appear till the end of the game? And how scary is the evil plot of...time compression? LAME! Dont get this game. It is very disappointing.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Buy It!
I managed to get this game when it first came out for twenty dollars. I wasn't planning on getting it, but hey it was a bargain. I wasn't to into it at first. While looking for something to do recently I picked up this game and started playing. I made it to the second disc when I was done playing, and I was hooked on the gameplay. The graphics have been rendered beautifully and the FMV scene are out of this world. The characters all inhabit special personalities which will influence your choice of teams. The plot is excellent. It starts with a Garden (college). You take the role of a young man named Squall. The Garden is a organization that supplies mercanaries to those in need of the extra force. You will help Squall and the two other people he can have on his team complete there mission. You will be able to use magic powers and spells. Not to mention the Gaurdian Forces that can do the maximum damage to your enemies, but most will have to be defeated to join your side. There are also many more interesting features. With the plot you intertwine with a man named Laguna that will help you seek your past, future, and your destiny. Squall eventually stumbles upon a Sorceress named Edea who enveils the main plot which is very clever. So with all these features you should allready have stopped reading to save up your money and go buy it. So buy it!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - an excellent RPG - worthy of the Final Fantasy title
this is an excellent game, I reccomend it to any serios gamers willing to devote their time into an epic journey of Squall and Riona in the magical, enchanting and mistifying world of Final Fantasy VIII.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Disc 4?
This a good game but I think that Disc 4 was kind of a let down you only unseal your abilties in Ultimecia's Castle which is very easy to do if you are a level 100. Another thing the Supposed Ultimate GF Eden i would like to know what the heck is it? ......

But the limit breaks were improved in this game opposed to the previous version.
