- Sega does what nintendon't !!!!!I had a Sega Genesis back in the day when it came with Sonic 2,awesome system one of the greatest systems around. I own Genesis,SNES,Saturn(sold) Dreamcast,Xbox 360, N64,two Ps2s,Playstation, and Gameboy advance. I recently played some of my Genesis games and a lot of them are still fun like Sonic 1,2,3,Zombies ate my neighbors,Sonic and Knuckles, WWF Wrestlemania, Streets of Rage 2. I like Sega better than Nintendo because Sega comes out with creative games with all the systems like Nights into dreams on Saturn, Soul Caliber on Dreamcast, and Sonic on Genesis. Nintendo has mostly the same type of Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Mario games with every system.I do not hate Nintendo I just don't really like Mario games and not a fan of role playing games. The Genesis is a great system, but I think people just like snes better at the time. I think Sega is always trying to bring arcade games to all of their systems which is why I like Sega so much. The games are easy to find at used electronics stores pretty cheap,If you like 2d gaming you should get a Sega Genesis. Pros: system and games are cheap, fun creative games, reliable system,6 button controller,Mortal Kombat 1 looked better and had fatalities and blood Cons: some games are hard to find,3 button controller sucks, crap add-ons like 32x and Sega CD Rating: - Sega Genesis is awesome! This is one of those consoles where you could feel a change in gaming, like the Atari or NES before it. The games were great, mostly side scroll like anything else back then. The games made by Sega were the best. You should get one if you've never played it before, or even if you have. Rating: - Still great after all these years...I purchased a Sega Genesis console back in November 1989. My Genesis is still in mint condition and I pull it out once in a while to relive the classics. If you do not own one of these gems, I highly recommend that you pick one up! There are hundreds of titles available, most of which sell for only a few dollars. Some of these titles are among the greatest video games ever created; you must own these if you're a collector. While playing these games, it's important to consider the limits the game developers were constrained to. Unlike today's consoles - with seemingly unlimited CPU power, bandwidth and memory - the developers were forced to work with a very small amount of storage capacity to hold graphics and sound data. Over time, the developers came up with some very clever techniques to overcome these limitations. I recall being "wowed" by the effects in games such as Gunstar Heroes and Earthworm Jim...effects I had no idea my little old Genesis could do more than five years after owning it! Over time, I came to really appreciate these efforts and continued looking forward to how much further the envelope would be pushed. Below is a list of must-own games for the Genesis. This is by no means a definitive list; these are just my favorites among those games I have played. Platformers: Sonic 1, 2 & 3, Chuck Rock 2, Castle of Illusion, Cool Spot, Ristar, Alex Kidd, Earthworm Jim, Aladdin, Ecco, Flink*(see bottom) and Shinobi 3. Fighters/Brawlers: Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 1 & 2, Eternal Champions, Street Fighter II CE and Two Crude Dudes. Shooters: Gunstar Heroes, Sub Terrania, Truxton, Gaiares, M.U.S.H.A., Ranger X and Raiden. RPGs: Phantasy Star 2, 3 & 4, Beyond Oasis, Shining Force II, Land Stalker and Crusader of Centy Sports: Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf, Madden and Tommy Lasorda Baseball. If you're inclined to pick up the Sega CD add-on, you should also consider the following: Flink, Wonder Dog (Sega CD), Final Fight (Sega CD), Sonic CD, Earthworm Jim SE, Robo Aleste, Silpheed, AH3 Thunderstrike and Batman Returns. *The Misadventures of Flink is available on cartridge in the Euro market only; however, it's available domestically on the Sega CD. Rating: - Excellent system!!I began video gaming on this platform at the age of 50. I am now 63yrs old and still going strong on video games.I love this platform because it is sleek and the controller was the first to be ergonimically designed. The games are VERY enjoyable and I go back to them regularly. They had some very unique ones such as Boogerman, Zombie ate my neighbors, Toejam & Earl on the planet Funketron. It also had the BEST pinball games EVER to be released to date. Dragon's Revenge and Dragon's Fury.I recently purchased Phantasy Star IV on this platform and am enjoying it very much! I also liked the RPG Sword Of Vermillion a very underated game BUT a good one! This system had superb graphics for the time. Was very far ahead. I go back and play the Sega games since most games today are just clones of clones :) Sega was way ahead of it's time in platforms too bad they did not know how to run a business or they would have given Nintendo, Sony, and Xbox some HEAVY competition. You will not be disappointed with this platform that began a lot of fine things. Rating: - OutstandingThis is probably the best classical entertainment system ever. It basically started Sega's whole revolution and actually continued others from before. Though I advise you not to overpower it.(Meaning don't plug the wrong/opposite way or you'll have to buy another power cord) Though this would be an extremely hard decision to make, I would say the top ten games are: 1. Gunstar Heroes. Best genesis game ever. Side-scroll 2.Sonic and knuckles. Mostly side-scroll 3.Streets of rage 3. Fighting/Adventure 4.Road Rash 3. Believe it or not, a violent racing game. 5.Mortal Kombat Ultimate 3. For those bloody violent lovers and about 33 characters to choose from. Fighting game 6.Sonic The hedgehog 3 Side-scroll 7.Shaq fu. Thats correct, think... SHAQ(Shaqullie Oneil) and Fu(Kung fu) Fighting game. 8.Pocohontas. Amazing adventure game. Rare to find. 9.Aladdin. Great game. Side-scroll. 10.Captain America And The Avengers. note: trust me this game would be more fun with four people. Fighting/adventure Thus ends the list. These are the best in my case. I will also glady name the worst game for Sega genesis: ECCO THE DOLPHIN. Seriously (im really not even joking) don't buy this. A waste of your good earned money. The genesis is a great classical for the tv, yet I would reccomend the Sega Nomad. The portable version that still can connect to the tv, though it may not be able to play some games. Also, it's extremely expensive. Overall, I highly recommend you buy the system.
