- More than Point & ShootYou can get blown up every time by just letting your weapons officer do all the work. It's an intense game of strategy. Sometimes they make it easy for you; sometimes it's a try again and again challenge. Some ships can only be defeated by targeting certain subsystems. Sometimes you just flat have to take the helm and fly the Sovereign yourself. At times you can only defeat a fleet of bad guys by ganging up your Allies against one ship. At other times, keeping your allies apart is the only way to avoid suicide. Add to that the delicate balance of powering your own ship's systems, maneuvering between deadly orbiting satelites, and trying not to blow up your own badly-behaved Klingon friends, and you've got a game. The only minuses to this game are the heavy video card requirements, which can bump you right out of the game if you're trying to max out limited resources, and the carefully controlled script. After playing a few times, I'd just love to blow the Cardassian Matan out of the sky when we first bump into him, but that would just ruin episodes 5-8, wouldn't it? So he escapes in the nick of time. And Ensegn Lomar is very unreliable when it comes to getting you to a ship under attack in time or avoiding Cardassian listening posts. Just take the helm. Rating: - I Love This GameMy dad researched Star Trek games and bought this for me based on the recommendations of others. I think Bridge Commander is a very cool game. If you like TNG, you can't go wrong buying this. I have dozens of PC games, but I have spent more time playing this than any other. by Kenny Rating: - Fun Fun Fun!My title pretty much sums it up. Who hasn't dreamed of saying, " Lieutenant, set a course for the xi entrades system..........MAximum Warp. You can do this in this game- if you have voice activated command system. Its pretty fun to fight cardassians, and damage is really realistic. You can even saw off warp nacelles with phaser fire! Giving orders is fun, but steering the ship yourself is even moreso. If you so much as think of ramming starbase 12( tons of fun) your first officer seizes command from you. The kessok, a new race are a little over powered, but a sovereign can take care of one with good tactics. this brings me to ships. in single player you get galaxy and sovereign. in skirmish, you get those two, ambassador class, akira class, nebula class,a shuttle craft(yes you heard me right) vorcha, bird of prey, warbird, kessok light, kessok heavy, and a ferengi marauder. so if your going to buy one game this summer, make this it! Rating: - Great storyThis game really astounds you when you first play it, what with the beautiful graphics and all. Starbase 12 looks amazing. It's 100 times bigger than your craft and glows bluish-white. But as you play the game, you realize that there isn't very much to do. You are given orders by the admiral, and you give orders to your crew. You just sit there as they do most of the work. Sure you can take control of the weapons during a fight, but the fights are never very engaging. They are slow-paced and just a little too simple. It's the story that kept me playing. It's an excellent Star Trek story that sounds like it could have been an episode of one of the TV shows. Still, it's probably not worth buying just for the story. Rating: - DO NOT waste your moneyAlthough I am trekkie and purchased this game with high hopes, I was immensely disappointed. The only positive thing I can say about the game is that most of the graphics are impressive. (One notable exception: when characters' lips move when they are talking, it looks ridiculous and unrealistic.) Every other aspect of the game is horrendous. Gameplay is very slow, and you spend a lot of time just watching events unfold, in sickeningly slow speed, on the screen. The game even manages to make battles boring--you just instruct your tactician, with a series of mouse clicks, to attack, and he fires at the enemy ship for a good five minutes until it blows up. This relegates you to the role of observer rather than participant, which makes for a boring experience. Also, you do not have the ability to save during a mission, so if you make a mistake and fail a mission, you are doomed to repeat the entire boring experience. I strongly recommend against this game.
