Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Old but still fun
I have an xbox 360 and I have been buying older used titles to play. While the titles are older, they're new to me and heck if you buy them used through amazon they're cheaper than renting. I got both max payne and max payne 2 used and both worked beautifully. As to the games, both were great fun and very entertaining, the story pulls you along, and the action is non stop. While it is true that technically they are dated, they still have the goods...for both I paid approximatedly ten bucks which is cheaper than a movies ticket and popcorn and ended up having hours of fun being in my own detective movie. The dream sequences are a hoot, and the action keeps you on your toes. If you haven't played these titles, buy them used and give them a go. Then resell them to recoup your investment. You can't go wrong.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Well, they are successfully mimicking Hollywood...
...by producing dull paint-by-numbers sequels. The original Max Payne was inventive (with its bullet-time interludes and playable nightmare sequences) and moody (pulp comic storytelling and Noir York backdrops), and held my attention despite some pretty serious gameplay and difficulty balance flaws. Unfortunately Max Payne 2 has retained the flaws and added nothing new to the experience.

MP2 is still too easy with Bullet Time assistance, far too many health and ammo powerups, and an overall simple level of play. I'm just an average shooter player, but I breezed through it in a few hours. And maybe due to less inspired level structure than the first (warehouses...ughh), it felt shorter. The complex time-warped romance of MP2 is disorienting and silly, and by the halfway point I had been jerked around by so many false flashbacks and faked death scenes that I really couldn't care less if Mona lived or died.

Yes, the graphics are nice and the storyboarding and character expressions are more realistic, but it will take more depth and innovation to hold my interest in the Max Payne series.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Max Payne 2 - the makings of greatness
Max Payne on the PC was one of the craziest games I've ever played. I still play it once in a while for nothing more than its all out gunning madness. It truely was a visceral experience from front to finish, which came all too soon. That is probaly my biggest gripe with Max Payne 2 is that it is also somewhat short. Though, there is greatness to be found in this game. The is depth to be found in it's simplicity. The run and gun tactics make for one intense experince that you will easily want to relive. Graphically, Max Payne 2 on the xbox is pretty sweet. There are no reflective effects such as the ones found on the PC and sacrifices have been made in the explosion department, but its likely you wont notice. The game looks and plays too good to complain. The story is deep and lost me on a couple occassions, still this made me want to replay those levels. No matter what your reason, you will want to revisit this game even after beating it quickly the first go around. Xbox shooter fans, do yourselves a favor and buy this game. It is one heck of an experience offering some of the best graphics, rag-doll physics, and gameplay around. Highly recommended.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Holy Guacamole!
This game is spectacular! It has no flaws. The first game limited you, and, no offense to the designers, had the most hideous facial graphics ever! In Max Payne 2, he has great facial graphics. The game is more like a movie, it has calm scenes that may be in the NYPD offices and apartments to The Cleaners (Hence the name) and The Fun House (Hence the name again).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Rock Star's Finest
The innovative Grand Theft series gets all the press, but for me, Max Payne is tops. As far as 3rd-person action/shooters go, it can't be matched. The graphic novel cut-scenes are compelling and, along with the moody orchestral score ( think the Angel theme ), really draw the player into Max's noir state-of-mind. Yeah it's short, but a game this fully imagined and atmospheric is a rare thing. If only all M-rated games were as sophisticated and intelligent. Sure there's blood, profanity, and a little sex, but it's never excessive or gratuitous and it serves to enhance the grim story, always reminding the player that this ain't Marioland. To wrap it up, every single aspect of this game is expertly done: Gameplay, levels ( the theme/amusement park is genius ), sound, voice-acting and story. Highest recommendation, can't wait for #3!
