- The Perfect SteamerI have had this steamer for 5 weeks now. I have used it many times over the past few weeks and I absolutely love it. I mainly cook only for myself so this steamer will work for small meals or larger meals. I've fixed many different dishes in this steamer, Vegetables, BBQ Chicken, Shrimp, just to name a few, and so far everything has came out perfectly. Very Easy Cleanup as well. I would highly recommend this steamer! Rating: - food steamerThe steamer was not quite what I expected. The cooking times needed were alot longer than I wanted. I gave the steamer to my daughter-in-law who felt that she would like to try it. Rating: - Oster 5712 Electronic 2-Tier 6.1-Quart Food Steamer I was going to buy a new egg cooker to replace my old one with a broken egg rack (the price for a new egg rack from that company was out of line). While searching the idea of a food steamer came up that would cook my eggs as well as many other foods. Having a multiple use product made much more sense to me. I have used it for a couple of weeks now, cooking eggs, rice, fish, pork chops and beef ribs in it and I love it. The meats are moist and tender, and like using a slow cooker, it is great to have the dinner completed in one process. I would have given it 5 stars if the instruction book gave more cooking tips and some recipes. I learned by experience that if one cooks eggs in it from the refrigerator the cooking takes much longer (which is expected of course), but finding the right amount of time is a learning process. It does take longer to cook eggs in this type of unit compared to one of the egg cookers that are much smaller, but I allow for this because of its versatile use. It also has a handy delay timer feature, and cleaning it after use is a breeze. It would be nice if the drip tray had handles. It is not easy to remove when filled with drippings and juice. I used a baster to remove the liquids before trying to take out hte drip pan when it was full. Rating: - Wonderful in every wayI use it all the time! I make all my daughter's food from scratch and it only takes a second in this thing. Not to mention you can steam a bunch of different things at once. I don't ever boil my potatoes to make mashed potatoes. Just peel, cut, and throw them in, steaming keeps much more nutrients in the food. Rating: - Unsafe plasticGood steamer, but it's made from unsafe plastic #7 (bisphenol A) that supposedly leaches in heat. While I've been putting my food in safe plastics and ceramic dishes to avoid contact with the plastic, I wonder if BPA fumes are a concern.... I'm currently looking for a BPA-free steamer. Do any exist?
