 - So far so great!I just received my Oster 5712 steamer today. I never used a steamer before but a relative loves this one so I gave it a try. The first thing I tried (after cleaning) was follow the instructions and hardboil some eggs. 4 GA large eggs, 17 minutes in steamer, then removed the tray for a 5 minute cool down, then put them in cold water: when completely cooled the shell peeled off easily, the white was hard but not rubbery and the yolk was completely cooked but very tender-perfect in my opinion. After the eggs I decided to cook some rice. I used cheap white long grain rice and followed the instructions: I added nothing to the rice when it was done, and it was the best rice I have ever had. I am thrilled that I can now cook rice this good at home! Rating:  - Very nice!We use this steamer all the time to make corn-on-the cob. So far we are very pleased with the product. It's also easy to clean, as you just stick the plastic basins in the top of your dishwasher. Our only complaint is that we wish it would beep louder when the timer goes off. Rating: - A hit!So, my husband was mildly annoyed that I had ordered another "gadget" and I did my best to convince him that we really needed it because I wanted to cook more with steam. We have had it for about 11 months now and we used at least 4 times a week - he loves it as do I. It is ideal for reheating any type of food and fantastic for preparing ready made frozen meals - the food does not get burnt or tried out instead it stays moist. He loves popping some food into the steamer, setting the timer while he ocntinues to work in his office with no worry - it peeps when it is done and you really can't ruin it. I love steaming vegetables with it - anything from greens to potatoes - it works fabulous. I only made rice with it once yet and I think it takes longer as it would with a rice cooker. I don't make rice that much and now use a regular pot often as I make speciality rice that easily cooks. I definitley recommend this item it is also easy to clean. It does take up some space but for us it is worth it. I should mention that we do not have a microwave - we prefer this steamer by far. Rating: - steaming - the best way to cook!I love this product, and I like a product that I can get my money's worth out of, and this is one of them. We do a lot of cooking by steaming and this product does a good job and lasts well - we are very pleased with it - it is well worth the price! Rating: - PerfectThis steamer is great, since we have it we use it a lot. It seems to be good quality but we have it only since 1 month so too early to see the quality. For the moment only good things about it.
