- Universal BinaryBy applying the free Universal Binary patch from Aspyr's website, you can now play Sims 2 on Intel Macs without Rosetta slowdown. Two caveats: at the time of writing, included Body Shop application is not yet Universal Binary and neither are any Expansion Packs. That said, this patch made the game fly on my 20" iMac (2.0 GHz Core Duo, 2 GB RAM, and 128 MB ATI X1600). I've tried two settings, a default setting at 800x600 with mostly medium details and fully maxed out 1680x1050 with highest details. Although zooming and panning are not quite fluid (i.e., occasionally becomes unresponsive), the game is imminently playable at the highest setting. At the default setting, the game runs VERY FAST. I doubt you will need full 2 GB RAM to enjoy (although you will want 1 GB minimum), as I run other applications in the background without ill effect. As for the game itself, it's very addictive. If you liked the original Sims, you will probably love this one. At the surface, it has not changed dramatically. Although Sims are now extremely customizable, the basic play system behind the game remains mostly the same. Except for aging. Sims now age from infant, child, teenger, adult, to elder. And any newborn will genetically inherit traits (both physical and personality) from its parents. If aging is not your thing, you can turn it off using documented cheat code (and turn it back on when you feel like it). Another change involves career. Sims no longer have to work every single day -- most careers have 5-day-a-week schedule, leaving you some time to develop skills and friendships. With higher level positions, you can even accrue vacations. There are many other small changes, all adding up to fun timeless experience. Rating: - To Good to be TrueThis is an awesome game, my last review said that i couldn't get it to work but now i can and it is awesome. It is so much better then the origanal sims i love the fact that the sims have momories now. I also like the supirior graphics. i am runing it on a g4 mac mini with 64mb of vid ram and it is not choppy at all. If it doesn't work for you, try changing the disk permision, that is what my dad did, and now it works! Rating: - Sims 2 for MacThe Sims 2 for Mac has all the same features as the original, but with the ability to enjoy the game on Macintosh. Happy days! Its a great game for any level player; I personally enjoy playing for sake of building homes and desgining stores, but it still has the comulsive option, for those who thrive on playing God, to create families. With significantly improved graphics compared to the original sims, this game has 360 degree game view and the luxury of customising and creating sims and family trees. New furnitures, objects and building options appear, as does the exciting aspirations aspect. Pick and aspiratiuon for your Sim and help them accomplish their dreams! As they do so, so they earn rewards and skills. I originaly owned the pc version and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then after merrily converting to the world of apple mac and discovering delghts here previously unknown to me, I decided to get it again. I play on an i-book G4. Though it runs slower than on a PC or other such full size computer, it is still definately playable and operates well. No doubt heftier macs with greater hard-drives will experience no problems at all. A definate thumbs up for this colourful and addictive game. A must have methinks! Rating: - Sim FunI bought this game recently and I must say it's very addictive and I highly recommend the Mac version to anyone who's thinking about it. Make sure your system can handle it because it is a very memory and graphics intensive program. Rating: - hours days, months.. spent... on this gameso i got a new mac laptop, and i needed a lil somethin somethin to keep things fun... so of course, i bought a copy of the sims to play.. the only dissapointment i've had so far, is that when i go to download something that someone has designed and put in a zip file, they expect me to use winzip to unzip it, and there are mac programs to unzip files, but not THESe files (i've tried) i tried every mac file.. so i can't have my special patched hair and angel wings and whatnot *sniffle sniffle*... also a lot of the other things i've loaded from the sims website aren't showing up (from lack of patches).. and i don't have the patches because they're all zipped up with winzip.. i'm highly against anything windows so that is definately not the solution.. the solution is for me to ask these programmer dudes to make the extra patch fun stuff and zip it in stuff that us mackians can unzip as well.. so exhausting though. but overall?? sims 2 ROCKS, because the people/sims in it can get pregnant, they can AGE.. they can actually DIE of old age.. the programmers are genius. they truly understand the essence of life.. and the more you play the more you are reprogrammed in a way.. you learn how IMPORTANT it is to communicate with people.. if the sims/people/characters don't talk to eachother in the game, they become very depressed.. little things like that. now sometimes when i'm relating to life situations with my mom i say things like "yeah, my social meter is low, i need to hit the talk button more".. she completely understands because she plays sims more than i do. it's just impressive the extent that the programmers were willing to go to get this game to simulate life. it's hilarious to set up a house replica like your own with sims just like you and your housemates and watch different scenarios play out.. because the programming is so impeccable the sims actually tend to do what the actual people would have done in certain situations in the program.. it's hilarious.. then you get to tell these people, your housemates, what their sim character did.. they usually get a kick out of it. hehehe... anyway, i'm bummed out because i can't create an identical sims character to myself because i can't download the dreadlock patch... *pout*.. silly zip file..
