Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not a good buy
A low cost, but not the lowest. It doesn't play WMA files at all as specified, no matter what bit rate is. Dispointed. Othe functions tested seem OK. I don't recommend this product>

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - awsome dvd player!!!!!
great region free dvd player, easy to use, better than the my sony dvd player, i can play all my region 2,4 movies with no problem.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Wrong DVD sent and they say that the wanted DVD is sold out
I ordered a multi region DVD so I can view all my films from Denmark. They have offered that I could return it but I just want the right DVD. I also discarded the package it was sent in. The Philips CVP5140 is supposed to be multi region but they say that the model I received was missing 3 digits after the model name. And that the model I wanted had different digits after the model number. I am just so tired of this that I am probably never going to order ANY electronics from Amazon out of fear that there is some invisible digits following the model number and therefor will not work. I have been a loyal customer for many years but feel that since Amazon involve vendors that are not living up to what they promise, I have to go back to local stores where I test the merchandise and check the DVDs upon purchase.
Sincerely
Steen Lauridsen

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very Sleek DVD Player & Region Free
Just received this DVD player. My old KLH DVD player is almost 3 times as thick as the Philips 5140. The remote IR window on the front of the player is very sensitive. The remote must be pointed directly at it. That may be one reason some people have had a hard time programming the player to be region free. It took me two tries to get the region code screen to display. Connecting and setting up the player was a breeze. Video is crisp and bright and audio is clear. Such a treat to be able to watch my UK DVD's now! Thanks H. A. Emet.

Update 9/28/08: From page 22 of the User's Manual - If you hold down the stop button on the remote, the disc tray will open. If you hold down the stop button again, the tray will close.

Update 9/30/08: From page 24 of the User's Manual - If you press Play/Pause while a disc is loading, the disc will resume play from last stopped point. The manual says you can resume playback of the last 5 discs. I have only tried it with 2, but it works.

This DVD player has a lot of functions, but you really need to go through the User's Manual carefully....

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very good player for the money
I bought this unit because my older model Toshiba player had problems playing DVD-R's and even some DVD's. This little guy plays everything! Not a fancy player and I agree that the remote is rudimentary, but I am still very pleased with my purchase. Good value for the money.
