- Very reliable and great in every wayThe Garmin Nuvi 660 is great! It gets a signal quickly and is accurate. Highly recommended. Rating: - Average Product I bought the Garmin Nuvi from a "buy the best in class" attitude. I dont have any "huge" complaints about this unit with the exception that it did not "exceed" my expectation. Soon after buying, we had a trip to Canada (Ontario, Toronto) and the GPS did really well. It is EXCELLENT on taking detours and saved us a hell of time in traffic situations. As for features are concerned here are the details: 1. Bluetooth: Very good use. Excellent clarity and works wonderfully with bluetooth enabled phones (I have a AT&T Tilt). Replicates Address books etc., last dialed numbers et al 2. FM Transmitter: Not useful AT ALL !! Please do not pay high price for a product just for this feature. The noise from FM channel is very high and exteremly poor quality. 3. Navigation ability: Average. Does well to alert the driver well ahead in time. Although it did perform very well in Canada, in Chicago it has been average. From the Northern Suburbs to go to the City, it by default chooses local roads against freeways (Not sure if it does that to avoid the constructions on Edens) but takes definitely longer to arrive to destination. I had to force it to recalculate by taking the freeway. It also has trouble finding some of the addresses in subdivisions that are 3-4 years old in Vernon Hills!! NOT GOOD !! I had read that Garmin was one of the best in Navigation accuracy, but dont agree with that now. So in all Navigation ability is average. 4. POI's and other extras: FANTASTIC !! I can pull up restaurants around anyplace I go, Fuel, shopping etc. Has been a life saver especially in finding gas stations at unknown places that I couldnt have done without a GPS. 5. Traffic Alert: ALthough I have 3 months free subscription, not sure how to use this function. I tuned on to FM transmitter thinking that Unit may alert me but it did not. Not sure if I need to do anything different to configure it to work. But did NOT work for me when needed!! 6. Screen size: Excellent. I am glad it has a 4.3" screen. Very easy to look at. In all I would rather go for the Nuvi 350 or anything lower than 660 and not pay for these other extra gizmos that dont seem to provide you any value. Thinking of exchanging mine! Rating: - Garmin Nuvi 660 & Friction PadAwesome GPS, especially for the price. Directions were spot on and never missed a turn throughout a recent trip through the northeast and Canada. Bluetooth worked flawlessly picking up and displaying all calls. Definitely get the dash friction mount instead of the windshield mount. Easier to move from car to car and you can position the GPS where you want. Rating: - Just worksIt works great but loses reception easily while going under a bridge or overpass. It doesn't acquire location easily. Rating: - Love this navigatorI was looking for a navigation unit to carry in my Honda Element. I found the extensive number of units on the market somewhat overwhelming. I decided to get a unit that had been available a while but not too long so it would be up to date and well reviewed. I have used these units in rental cars so I knew how they work. I love the 660 and I would have given it 5 stars if the Garmin company had made their stand compatible to both windsheilds and dashboards or made a California dashbord edition. My solution? I just bought some Extreme Velcro at Home Depot and cut it to fit the back of the windshield mount, soft side on the mount. On my dash between my speedometer panel and the airconditioning/radio panel, next to my steering wheel I doubled the velcro rough strips and the unit sets up there perfectly well within reach, easy to view, out of glare. You have to take alcohol and orange goo cleaner to make sure the dash is really clean for it to stick but if you do it right it works fine. This unit comes with ac adaptor, carrying case, windsheild mount and cord, full manual on CD and a hardcopy quick reference guide, also a free trial 3 month FM traffic service. Like all GPS units I have tried this one does not always go the shortest way and occasionally makes mistakes about turns and pronounciations, but they are minor errors. This is a good product and very useful in the car when shopping and traveling.
