Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Better than before
Unlike previous years', 2006 did not make obvious importing mistakes on my taxes. It still does not do a perfect job on my State forms (NJ and NY). It was still hard to get rid of forms mistakenly entered, or imported but no longer applicable.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - May be my last time with Turbo Tax
I have used Turbo Tax for the last 6 or 7 years and have always thought it was okay, better than hunting down the forms and inexpensive. Anyone with a bit of tax knowledge, straight forward situations could use it and it has been handy for certain tax updates.

I had to buy this more expensive version to get both the Schedule C and 1040 info that used to be on the Deluxe. Not only did I pay more (although Amazon was cheaper than the Turbo Tax home site by $20.00),it was not nearly as straight forward to use and did not catch in the error check a couple of descrepancies I had entered. If I was not used to preparing my own taxes I would have missed them. It is useful to pull the prior year forward and be able to compare with the current year's data side by side.

In this version it was also difficult to separate out my 2007 self employment estimated taxes from my projected employee income so I kept getting ridiculous estimated tax deposits. I finally said forget it and figured it out manually.Perhaps the standard home version is easier. This one might have been if I only had self employment but the combo of different kinds of activity threw the software off more than in previous years.I do not need to use the state tax part of the module so have no opinion there.

Turbo certainly puts a lot of energy into selling "extras" though. It's annoying to have to actively keep saying no I don't want something because the default is to buy it. Don't count on any support without paying extra.

If I could I would have given this software 2.5 stars slightly better than 2. I'm not so sure what I'll do next year. Maybe I'll just download forms from the IRS site.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Turbotax: complete and easy to use.
Turbotax made filing vastly easier this year. It was especially useful for handling all the complexities of a schedule C. It was also a pleasant surprise that it was able to reach out to my investment sites, and gather and organize all the necessary information that normally must be gleaned from forms 1099. It was also wonderful to have my tax recomputed (and the resultant liability or refund reported) instantly after every correction I would make to the input data. All this sure beats filling out page after page by hand!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Turbo Tax Home & Business State & Federal
Contains a variety of help formats and provides multiple ways to navigate through the system. I started with the online version (free) then purchased the desktop version as there were several key features only available in the desktop version. My online information transferred to the desktop. Links between the inexpensive Quicken seem to be better than between the quite expensive Quickbooks. I do hope that improves next year. Regardless, although quite time consuming to complete our taxes this year, it was better than dealing with our accountant and look forward to completing the taxes using Turbo Tax in the future.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Mostly okay
Works well for the most part, but there was a mistake in the way it calculated New York City tax. They seem unaware that you have to pay NYC resident tax if you are not a resident but maintain a home there more than half the year.
