- Needless Hidden Charges in 2006 VersionTurbo Tax is still a relatively easy to use product, but it seems that Intuit is making the product increasingly difficult and expensive to consider purchasing for the coming year. I've used TurboTax for well over a decade, and this year's model is having problems identifying an individual tax return I did last year with the 2005 version for a family member unless I agree to subscribe to some sort of "transfer" service. I don't understand why this screen is coming up when I've just purchased the 2006 version, and the 2005 saoftware transferred in previous year's returns WITHOUT having to subscribe to another Intuit product. Although I use the Home & Business software (10 years now), Intuit mailed me a repeat customer disk that was for an individual user and wanted me to subscribe to it at a charge of $49.95. I caught the error before I paid for the product, and had to download the correct version at $89.95 from their website without a discount for having been a previous customer. Additionally, I'm going to have to purchase a separate copy of Turbo Tax if I want to prepare a return for a subchapter S corp I own. So much for Home and "Business". Additionally I've just found out that the 2006 version has a licensing scheme that requires you to contact Intuit if you need to reinstall the product on say, a new computer or replacing a hard drive. It is reported on the Internet that at least some of their reps ask for a new license fee all over again even when they're not supposed to. This isn't helpful if you have a hard drive crash and have to reinstall some software (as I did two weeks ago). I'm thinking 2007 will be the year to consider a competitor's product. The attempts by Intuit to grab additional monies from long term customers seems short sighted to me. EM Snellville, GA Rating: - Expensive Hidden CostsGreat software it gets to everything for you in a very ease of use processTurbotax Home & Bus TY06 with St No Backorders for This Item. Why the 2 stars? Well I used home and business for tax year 2006 for $80.00. Then they charge you 16.95 for each return (state and Federal). Well after paying those charges totaling $33.90 they give you this nice option of having them deduct the $33.90 from your return instead of using a credit card. Like a sucker I picked that option only to learn that for this process they charge you $29.99 to deduct $33.90 from your return. So total cost was $80.00 for the product $33.90 to e-file $29.99 to deduct the e-file fee from my return Total 143.89 that was to do the taxes myself....No thanks Rating: - TurboTax Federal + State Home & Business 2006This product has met our needs ver well every year we've used it. We used the online only version last year, and it was slow and clunky (we couldn't pick up right where we'd left off). BUT... The desktop version is great! Faster than ever compared to earlier years, and no tax category was overlooked for personal or business. We ran it on Mac OS X 10.4.9. Buy with confidence! Rating: - Been using Turbo Tax since 2000 tax year...Easy tax preparation and lots of information, videos, and help. I even bought stock in INTUIT because I also use their Quicken product. Awsome products... no wonder Microsoft had their eye on it before. Rating: - A Pain in the ***Turbotax is okay if you only have a 1040A to file, but anything beyond that it quickly becomes a real pain in the nether region. Not only that, but if you have complications with trying to file, good luck. It looks as though I will have to pay to have my estate taxes filed. Ttax is worthless.
