- Four stars with reservationsI have only cooked in this crock once since it arrived. I made my usual split pea soup, cooked on low. The soup was better than ever, but I did have a couple of issues. First, the temp. reached over 200 degrees on low as registered by an instant read thermoneter. A bit of the soup burned around the bottom edges of the pot, and after cleaning by hand and then again in the dish washer, the stoneware had a white stain inside. I tried vinegar too, but could not remove the stain.I'm trying another recipe favorite today, so I'll see how it goes. Sandi Rating: - Rival Crock-PotI purchsed this as a gift and had it gift wrapped and sent directly to my sister. She was thrilled and couldn't get over the gift wrap. It was a beautiful blue cloth bag and ribbon, a definite keeper she said. Rating: - Pretty Cool!!!I love how you can brown your meat and cook in one pot. But like another reveiwer mentioned, it would be nice to have a lid that was see through. Because you always wonder how it is looking. I love my crock pot. Rating: - Great CrockpotWe have owned this crockpot for over 6 months now and use it on average once a week. It is a great quaility item and we haven't had any issues. We like the simple programming and have used it to brown meat in the same pan. We aren't sure why so many people are giving the item low stars. If you drop the lid, why wouldn't you expect it to chip or break? Its STONEWARE, not metal. Don't blame the product for your carelessness. If you dropped a dinnerplate and it cracked, would you blame the produce or the person dropping the product? We have two crockpots that we bought at the same time and after using each a couple of times, we never use the "other" brand unless cooking for the masses. They both cost around the same yet the this crockpot seems to be made of quality materials and doesn't feel "cheap". I find it odd that people have said in reviews that they "wouldn't brown meat in it" for whatever reason, but never tried. How can you give a produce a bad review when you haven't even tried using it. To me it seems that those people have an axe to grind. If you want a crockpot where you pour in a Marie Calendar's crock pot meal and call that cooking, go buy a walmart piece of junk special. If you want a crockpot that you can actually do some real cooking in, this pot is for you. Just to set the record straight, this is a great quality crockpot that works as advertised. Rating: - nice slow cookerI've had this slow cooker for about 2 months and have made 5 or 6 dinners with it. It works as advertised. There are two reasons I didn't give it 5 stars, the stoneware lid cracked near the handle after maybe the 3rd use. To be honest I'm not sure if I did it somehow or it happened on its own but it hasn't affected anything. The other thing is it has no bell or anything to let you know its done, altho it goes to "warm" automatically when the time is up.
