Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Camera for Size, Quality and Price
This camera is fantastic for those people who want to capture memories without spending a lot of money or lugging around a bulky camera bag. This fits perfectly into a moderate sized bag (or a larger one if you carry more than you need, like me).

The picture quality is great, especially for such a compact camera. I am not looking to take professional photos but I can appreciate the crisp resolution that's not so refined my pores show in my pictures.

I also purchased the leather carrying case for it, which I find easier to get the camera out than the zipper bags. You never know when one of those 'I need to have proof of this' moments will sneak up on you.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - SD-1000 is all I expected and MORE!
Product came quickly from Amazon's source. Start-up time is excellent and the digital delay is minimal - these were KEY FEATURES I was looking for, as capturing my son's events and spontaneous shots was my purpose for purchase. Face recognition works best in bright/outdoor shots - less well at a distance/evening shots, but the colors, especially skin tones captured, are exellent. The pictures appear a bit 'soft', though easily sharpened w/ PHOTOSHOP. THERE IS NO IMAGE STABILIZATION on this model, but I did not plan to use telephoto much - CONSIDER THE MORE EXPENSIVE IS Elph models if this will be an issue; because of the small size, movement artifact CAN BLUR your shots and this is magnified as you use the TELEPHOTO ZOOM (esp since you dont control the shutter speed - see comment below).

The video capture was a great suprise - unlike my old Olympus digital, the VGA resolution is excellent and the limit of video capture time is LIMITED BY YOUR SD-card memory ONLY. ONE exceptionally small device, fitting in my shirt pocket, is now both my primary camera and reliable video!!

I use my Canon XT Rebel for more controlled shots and for 'artistic' input, as MANUAL CONTROLS on the SD 1000 are very limited. In MANUAL MODE you can set the ISO, but not f-stop nor shutter speed. But for a reliable and QUICK/RESPONSIVE 'point and shoot' pocket camera/video, the SD 1000 meets and exceeds all expectations I had for an 'under $200' price tag [I got it around $168 with FREE DELIVERY thru Amazon].

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Love Canon cameras - but not this one!!!
I am a big fan of Canon cameras, however this time I was very disappointed. I read the reviews about this camera and I thought I will get another great Canon product. But after using it for several months now, I have to say, I am very, very disappointed with this camera. This camera is a great example that smaller is not necessarily better. Yes, this camera is small and handy, it is sturdy (I dropped it onto concrete floor, not a scratch) and it has great features. HOWEVER, the quality of the pictures is bad. The flash (because of the small size of the camera) is not strong enough, so your pictures are very dark. The pictures come out only have focused, especially the outer edges of the photos are always out of focus. The overall quality is just not what I expected. I had the Powershot 500 (Ixus 500) and it was a great camera with fantastic pictures. I will go out now and buy a new camera because this one is just not worth the money. I will shoot for the G9 or something like it. Is bigger but much better quality pictures.
My advise, don't go by the Megapixel, more is not always better. My old camera with 5MP was better than this one with 7.1MP.
PS: This camera does not support Remote shooting within your Canon Zoombrowser software.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love it
Have had it for about a month. Used it on trips, graduations, ect...I haven't even read the manual yet so I can't put any cons. Love it!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Photos not defined
I bought this for a point and shoot. Overly complicated instructions and the auto settings are unacceptable. Going Panasonic.
