- Near-perfect color, possible KVM confictI should preface my review with my setup specs as most users might not be using a KVM switch. I'm using the Huey Pro on two Dell laptops hooked up to a single monitor (Dell 2407WFP) via a DVI 2-Port KVM USB switch from IO Gear. Pro -- Calibration is very quick, easy and surprisingly accurate. I use it for producing cgi visuals for film and video and this is the closest I've gotten to 'true' color on a standard non-NTSC monitor. The calibration device is elegant, very well made and does a fantastic job of monitoring the lighting in the room + adjusting your color accordingly. Negative -- The KVM switch might be partially responsible here, but the Huey color profile doesn't always automatically launch itself on startup. This can be easily fixed by starting and closing Huey Pro manually. The lack of a correct profile is easy to detect as even your menu bars will display color banding if the calibration profile isn't loaded. Rating: - Pretty decent, some reservationsThe Pantone Huey Pro works pretty well, and the price is right. I'm very happy with the color calibration; I didn't see the green or red cast that other people reported. I did have a couple of reservations, though: - It's very hard to establish the white point, at least on my LCD monitors. It may have something to do with viewing angles on the LCD screen. - I'm not convinced that the ambient light detection works well. When I turned it on, the screens became too bright and contrasty. When I turned it off, they went back to normal. - Although the instructions say that the suction cups pose no danger to LCD screens, and they seem to have done no harm other than leaving behind some rings that wash off, I still have my doubts about whether it's a good idea to apply suction cups to LCD screens. Users might want to consider simply hanging the device by the cord from the top of the monitor, and not using the suction cups. Rating: - calibration that's constantI absolutely love this calibrator from Pantone. The huey pro couldn't be easier to use, and the colors are always being adjusted no matter what condition my office is in. The utility reminds me every few weeks to make sure it's still adjusted and it can get a bit annoying, but you can put it off till you really want to re-calibrate. I used the Spider 2 before this, and it was so big bulky and just annoying, I really couldn't justify getting it, so when this came out, I was just ecstatic. I would totally recommend it to anyone doing photography, or design. Rating: - Great price/performanceA calibrated monitor is the first step in accurate color printing. This is a very inexpensive solution for calibration. Installation was fast and easy. After a month of use, it is still working fine with my LCD monitor. I am able to get pretty good color matching with my color prints. However, the whole process of color matching through Photoshop is still a huge complicated mess, and I have taken color classes and worked in the field of color ink jet printing. Thus the huey will not solve all of your color problems. If you don't care about accurate printing and just want to see spectacular views on your monitor, you don't need a huey. Rating: - My display had a reddish tint after using itAfter receiving the Huey Pro I set it up as indicated by the manual. The process was very easy to follow and soon enough I was done with it. But...my screen now had a strong reddish tint. I repeated the process several times, but I got the same result. The system did not provide any method for tweaking the results, so it's either use the faulty profile or just turn it off, which I did. After consulting the Pantone website, I found that there's a known problem with the product. I submitted a problem report and I was sent a replacement unit free of charge. I have no received it yet so I don't know if it solves the problem or not, but in retrospect I wish I tried the Spyder instead.
