Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good sound, easy to carry
Good sound and easy to move around with the rechargeable batteries. I'm buying another one for my sister's birthday!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very impressive!
My family is very impressed with this little unit. It sounds great for no more than what it is. My wife and I have gen 3 ipod nanos and my kids each have gen 2 ipod nanos. It plays a few hours off the internal battery before it needs to be recharged. I'm so happy with this unit I plan to purchase 2 more. Highly recommended.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A real winner!
The Altec Lansing iM600 is a terrific value for the price at which Amazon is selling it. (I don't work for Amazon--but I am a professional musician and picky about sound reproduction.) Compared to the higher-priced iPod dock players--Bose, etc.--most of which don't have an FM tuner, it comes out on top as best value for money. The sound is astonishingly good from so small a unit, with impressive bass, fat middle range and clean, non-tinny highs. FM reception is very good, and Altec's SFX stereo-effect enhancer really does expand the soundstage. I might wish the remote worked from further away, but that's quibbling. For a good sound away from your regular stereo, this unit is tops.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Simply Amazing - Had no idea something so small could sound so good.
I'm not one to write product reviews...in fact, this is the first one I've ever written. I bought this unit about 8 months ago and I've been so happy with it that I just had to write one.

This unit has exceeded every expectation I had. First of all, the sound. I'm an audio enthusiast and even I think the sound is just incredible...better than any computer setup I've ever heard, which is about the type of sound I expected from something like this. The mids have outstanding depth, the highs are crisp (not tinny or cheap sounding) and even the bass is great considering the size of the unit. While it's obviously not going to be thumping bass, it does sound rich and does not become distorted when the frequency gets too low for the unit to reproduce. I mostly use this device at my work facility, mostly in a larger room (1,000 sq/ft) and have never felt the need to move it closer to where I happen to be working.

Secondly, the battery. When I bought this unit, I had no intention of using it without being plugged into an outlet. I figured it might get an hour or two of music before needing to be charged. After a while, I found myself using it unplugged and while I've never actually timed how long I've used it on battery power, I know it's been at least 4-5 hours on a couple occasions.

Third, the remote. This is another feature I figured probably wouldn't be great, but it actually works very well. There's no lag, so when you press a button, it does what it's supposed to. Also, you can scan through songs by holding the button down on the remote.

Fourth, the radio. I bought this for use with my iPod, so radio reception wasn't really a consideration. However, after I got the unit home and discovered how well it works as a radio (great reception and clear sound), I use it for radio as much as I do my iPod.

I paid $149 at Best Buy when the unit had just came out and I feel it was worth every penny. Now that they're down to around $100, I'm probably going to get another one for work (I own my own business and listen to music often) so I don't have to bother taking it back and forth with me in my laptop bag....speaking of that, this unit is extremely light weight and travels nicely because it can be folded up and the antenna can be tucked away.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GREAT Sound - Built in Battery - A Really Good Product
I purchased in September of '07 and have lived with (and enjoyed) it for about a year. I first bought this as a gift for our nanny to take back to college with her. I was so impressed with the size/sound that I had to have one. BTW, she said she loved it at school through last year also.

Pros: Incredible sound. Built in Lithium Ion battery (no more size "Ds" to buy & lug around). FM tuner is a very nice feature too.

Cons: None to speak of. A case would be nice, but I bought a nice, inexpensive case made for a portable DVD player that fits well & works like it was made for this.

This portable system is incredible. The sound defies its size, and it's head and shoulders above its competition (I owned 1 other). The closest in quality is the Klipsch, but this unit adds the fold-up feature, FM and a lithium ion battery (amazing how often this gets used away from the kitchen counter).

I've wondered why a couple of reviewers remark that the unit doesn't have AM (when no other unit has radio at all) or give it a lower score because it doesn't have a headphone jack (why would you dock your iPod in a speaker system only to plug in headphones? - NEWS FLASH - your iPod has a headphone jack).

Anywho, if you're in the market, go to Best Buy (or any other electronics store) and just listen. I think you'll see and hear why anyone that owns one raves.
