- Nice toy, but cheaply madeI received this product last week. Quite a speedy delivery I might add, but that's beside the point. A few nights ago, I was looking through the pictures when I accidentally dropped it from my computer chair, a height of about a foot and a half. Now the button to go forward doesn't work, the plastic piece on the inside that registers the button push to the circuit board broke, and now I'm stuck with just the one directional button. Nice picture quality and the software is easy to use, but these things are cheaply made. Guess I shouldn't really expect much from a promotional thing like this. Rating: - Nice little productI don't get all of the whining about this product. I did have to drag the software into "my documents" but it worked. This thing worked nicely once I got the software installed. Holds 60 pics like it said it would...heck, it works so good I ordered 4 of them and gave a couple of them out as gifts. Every one of us has no problems and everyone we show them too wants to know where to get one. I'm not saying EVERYONE should get out there and buy one but after ordering 4 and having no problems like a bunch of others out there..maybe, just maybe it's the user that is the problem. A little computer knowledge may help, or having someone with you that does have some computer knowledge to help you get started. Rating: - A Happy User of the Coby Keychain ViewerThe Coby keychain viewer has created quite a stir among our friends. It's a great way to carry your favorite photos of our grandson and his family. We actually ordered several others for gifts as the price at Amazon was much better than any other site we found. Rating: - Not good for everyone, but ok for someI purchased two of these to load wedding pictures onto right after my wedding to give to our fathers. I tested out the picture loading ability and software well before the wedding. Neither of my newer computers (a mac with OS X and a PC with windows XP) were able to recognize the device. The program that comes with the viewer would say that the device was either not present or not in the right mode, even though it was. I even used the USB prober utility of my mac to see what it thought was plugged in. I didn't see it showing up as a USB device at all, regardless of the mode I put it in. In what I thought was a futile effort, I pulled out my 7-year-old sony vaio and presto... it worked! The computer, after thinking about it for a few seconds, recognized it as a USB mass storage device. Here's the moral of this story: this device can be frustrating to use. Do not give it to a friend as a gift UNLESS you plan to load all the pictures onto it yourself ahead of time, so the person can simply use it as a way to carry around nice pictures you have given. If you give it to someone who is computer savvy and stubborn (like me), that person may end up spending hours trying to get it to work. If you give it to someone who is not, they will most likely not be able to use it. In the end, you get what you pay for. I was able to make these into nice gifts with a little time, effort, and frustration. I paid very little money, but made up for it in the time that I spent. And, well, I guess that's ok! Rating: - Don't buy Coby products. My wife purchased 1 of these items for her father for Father's day and filled it with pictures of his grandchild. Her father loved the gift. She used a Mac computer to load the pictures and had no problems. I decide I wanted one for myself and we also decided this would be a nice gift for other family members. We purchsed 4 more. We gave one away as a gift, one was for myself, and 2 were for upcoming gifts. I attempted to use the one for myself and the computer would not recognize it. I used 2 different computers running XP. I went to the Coby website and the website says the problem is the USB cable. I then contacted the Customer Service Line. They told me the only thing to be done was to return the item. I questioned this since the website says I only need a new cable. I was told that they do not ship replacement parts. The customer service rep talked to me like I was a first grader who had never used a computer. The treatement from Coby is completely unacceptable. I am returning the broken one and the other 2 becuase I do not want to give out gifts that don't work and both people these are going to use Windows XP. I recommend never buying this product or anything else by Coby. They made quite clear that they are going to ship junk and do nothing to fix the bad items. There customer service rep also treats you like you are not smart enough to use they product when the problem is they ship faulty junk.
