- Not good for AVCHDSurprisingly this software is not good for AVCHD. Maybe the Pro 8 version is but the ultimate is not. Just bought this software to edit and create AVCHD because on the box it states "Create Stunning HD Movies" and also "Vegas Movie Studio Platinum software has everything you need to produce movies in spectacular high-definition". From my experience, none of these statements are true. I do like the software if I were creating standard DVDs but I need it for HD. The program does not output in AVCHD format, period! I'm sure I'll find some uses for it and at least the cost wasn't so high it was a major mistake. I really like Sony products but I'm very disappointed they advertised this software in such a way it misled me to buying it! Rating: - Sony Vegas Plat 8 RocksI had version 7 and loved it but then bought a quad core Vista machine and 7 would not run properly so I upgraded to version 8. This is a solid piece of software and I am constantly amazed at what it can do. I don't want to say its easy to use...if you are the type to put the CD in the machine and want to start using the software, you may be disappointed. It will take time to learn the tricks while some of the basic stuff does come quickly. Compare this product to the full version of Photoshop...its got a lot of features that you won't have a clue how to use until you put some time into it. If you have a chance to buy it with the instructional CD, get that...it save a lot of time and the lessons are compact and to the point. Rating: - Vegas Studio 8 PlatinumA very advanced video editor and DVD authoring suite, but with some limitations. I never could figure a way to output standard MPEG 2 16:9 with audio that wasn't letterboxed. Sony seems to think that the editor will only be used with DVD Architect so outputs are limited. Very little control over quality of final output like bitrate in the editor although there seems to be better controls for this in DVDA. Doesn't help if you aren't creating a disc. Rating: - FrustratingI'm a long time Vegas user (used the pro version since 3.0) but switched over to the more consumer oriented version "Movie Studio" when I found it did 99% of the things I needed. Bad decision, editing HDV on this and past versions of Movie Studio is an exercise in frustration. The program has crashed on me more times than I can count due to the way Vegas handles drops in the HDV mpeg2 stream. The question is why. The latest version of Pro actually handles these without issue. Other programs such as those from Ulead can actually handle them as well. I love the editor but may have to switch to a competitive product in order to keep my sanity. Rating: - Vegas software is great stuff!I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to use this software. I received the item two days earlier than expected, so I was able to get my project done very quickly. I love having so many different tracks on which to place pictures, video, voices, music, etc. The software is user friendly. Since I was already used to Sony Screenblast, the transition to Vegas was easy. The transitions between pictures were innovative, so the project turned out great!
