- Easy to install, good performanceSimple installation on a Windows Vista system. Does what it advertises, unobtrusive performance, great price. Rating: - Norton AntivirusNorton Antivirus does exactly what it says it will do. I'll keep buying this product in the future. Have never had a virus infection with Norton on the job. Rating: - Beware of This ScamI bought a Dell computer with Norton antivirus, antispam protection. First the antispam was so bad it was funny (see my review). I discontinued that farce with haste. The virus protection is adequate so far. My issue with that is the fact that I started getting reminders to renew my subscription and simultaneously getting emails that it would be automatically renewed. I called Dell to ask which was the case and they suggested I manually renew my subscription to be sure I had protection so I did. A few days later the automatic renewal was charged to my Visa under the name Symantec (the first change was under Norton). I was unable to get in touch with anyone from Norton to refund my second payment. I finally got a phone number but was on hold with Norton an HOUR and hung up. I emailed them and told them the situation and was not answered or remedied. Finally I called my credit card company and put it in dispute. The person I spoke with the first time said SHE SEES THIS ALL THE TIME WITH NORTON. I just wonder how many people get ripped off and don't even realize it. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS RIP OFF AND ALSO BE AWARE THAT IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS COMPANY YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. Rating: - Caused my system to crash repeatedlyI've used Norton products for over a decade, including previous versions of Norton Anti-Virus. I've been generally pleased with them, so when my wife bought a new PC (a Dell Vostro laptop with Windows Vista), I purchased Norton Anti-Virus 2008. I was able to install it just fine and the PC ran OK for a few days. But then it started freezing up and crashing regularly. My wife lived with it for another week before giving up. We uninstalled Norton and installed Webroot AntiVirus with Antispyware. The PC has not crashed since then. I don't plan to purchase another Norton product. Rating: - Does what I need; maybe a little too automaticI was previously using Norton Antivirus 2005, which was a great product and I never had any problems. The equivalent cost of a 1-year subscription and Norton Antivirus 2008 (with mail-in rebate) made me update to the new product. It has worked fine, seems to protect my computer. The only downside is it's a little too automatic if you are the kind of person that wants to know what's going on under the hood. I did have to setup some port forwarding rules for MMOs, but other than that, I just get warnings that a program is accessing the internt and a question mark as to what I want to do. The recommendation seems to be "always allow" for everything. With Vista, this warning doesn't ever pop-up on top of the other windows. So you may be waiting for a program, when it's waiting for Norton to allow it internet access. This is an annoyance, but isn't a major problem. All in all, I'm happy with the new product.
