- Not what I expectedI have a new computer with recommended video game playing specs so I meet all the minimum requirements for playing the game and then some. Yet the game freezes on me. I do have one of those wide monitors for better visuals(resolution) but that seems (maybe) the cause of this game freezing up on me. I will have to make adjustments to my computer to allow the game to function and to me that is uneceptable since the game is a new release and should be able to function on the latest computer equipment. It is also not a true FIRST PERSON SHOOTER since you have to follow and be part of a group to move through the game. Technically you are a FP Shooter but not the kind like in FAR CRY and other FP Shooter classics. Rating: - Be a Hero... Again! + Counter-Strike: Source beater"Call of Duty" series lovers will eagerly want this after finishing the other WWII fps. COD3 did let down PC users as it was only available on console but COD4 makes up for it in aces. In 2004 the next best single player shooter to "Half-Life 2" was "Call of Duty 1". COD4 is up against some of the best games out there but whatever about the fabulous single player mode, the multiplayer destroys the competition. Needless to say COD4 brings us yet another fine sequel effort to rival anything else on the shelf. COD has firmly taken over where "Medal of Honour: Allied Assault" first got our attention in trying to recreate the "Saving Private Ryan" experience for us all. Instead of WWII though we get modern warfare and gosh it is good. The COD series is built on the same concept as MOH except there is more action, more high-octane moments and a very different type of enemy AI. COD4 has upgraded the enemy and platoon squad AI from COD2 so that your comrades can identify the enemy and instead of scripting each action sequence as in COD1, COD4 depends on AI so that a rerun of any level will play differently although the situations remain the same. COD4 maybe has the best storyline to date although you don't pilot and drive. COD4 retains all the cinematic intensity that its predecessor successfully claimed and even expands on each of the earlier episodes over the course of several different story arcs. You play as Marines and SAS. There are tons of very well designed missions. The smoke and explosion effects are absolutely photorealistic and have set a new benchmark for graphics quality. The environments and maps are genuinely war like all the way through and can not be faulted. The enemy AI and your own team AI are much more realistic than COD1 +2 and your team is very reliable. If you get too close to the enemy you can engage him in close quarter combat. Although Call of Duty 4 was never meant to be a war simulation, but more of a 1st person war adventure, to be honest, does exactly what it says on the tin. COD4 is more of an experience than a game. You will turn to it time and time again, however it is worth it for the experience of the single player missions alone let alone the stunning multiplayer where you can increase in rank and earn weapons and skills. COD4 lasts much longer than COD1+2 and OU, where COD1 had a 1.5 day game span and UO had 3, COD2 had a week this one can last longer. The pandemonium of war is all here in a spectacular fashion because the story is a winner as you play a mini version of what is happening right now in Iraq. Like COD1+2 you even feel loss at the end but for some reason the connection to your comrades in COD1 was a lot stronger because it was more scripted. Here your friends are replaced by mission leaders and specialists. That is my only gripe with it. Try to play it in Directx 10 (the standard for all the cutting edge new first person pc shooters) if you can. The new Geforce 8800 card handles this game well. If you don't have a very high end machine then you may want to hold off as the specs are pretty high. This war multiplayer has pretty much replaced Battlefield 2 and Counter-strike as the leader of the pack. COD has always been a contender for game of the year and COD4 is no exception. Pros: - Multiplayer - Cinematic gaming - Best new war game and a worthy 1st person shooter - Awesome war atmosphere Cons: - Needs more friends and less experts in your team - High system specs Rating: - I loved Crysis...until I met COD4For months all I could think about was how awesome Crysis was. Then I decided to give COD4 a try. I must say I have never played any games in this franchise before and so I had no idea what to expect...also, the though of forking out fifty bucks was not comforting. I can now say, that was a well spent fifty. I especially loved the way it made you choose your difficulty level based on how well you executed an obstacle course...and of course if you didn't do it well enough you can always do it over...similarly you can chose a different level than which you qualify for if you are that stupid. I played it at hardened first then at veteran before i played it at normal. I recommend you do it the other way around. Play it at normal first...it is much more exciting and the fact that you won't have to replay a scene 20 times makes the AI more realistic. The graphics is awesome (almost as great as Crysis) but the team effort and the AI is so realistic you may wonder if you are playing a game or watching a movie. The game immersed you into every possible scenario of modern warfare...from sniper, to demolition, to covering fire, house clearing, and all out chaos. This game is crazy fun but the action finished too quickly..especially considering I spent fifty bucks. Overall, this is by far the best FPS I have ever played. I am not an online player so I have nothing to say about the multiplayer action. The developers did a really good job especially with the story-line. War is not pretty and Activision knows it. Rating: - Best Game EVER!Best 1st person shoot 'em up EVER!!! Graphix... sick! Attention to detail... sick! Game play... sick! Extremely addictive. I'd recommend this game 10 times out of 10. Best in the COD series. Question is... how do you improve upon this? Rating: - Call of Duty 4This is an excellent first shooter, modern warfare game. It does require a demanding system requirements. Be sure that your system meets the requirments.
