- A Better Racing GameI'm not usually turned on by racing games. They tend to be repetitive, bland, and one dimensional. Pure is a different breed of racing game in that it not only goes over the top, but it also adds a level of customizability you don't see in many ATV or MX games (choose your rider, axel, frame, shocks, handle bars, paint, decals, everything). The graphics are beautiful. Draw distances are incredible with great vistas and scenery. I like how the terrain gets tore up with every lap (similar to Motorstorm). Controls are easy to learn and very responsive. The physics aren't meant to be totally realistic, but that's the fun of this game (implausible, impossible, and unlawful). It's got multiplayer. It's got every kind of race under the sun. It still ventures into that repetitive pitfall that most racing games suffer from, but it doesn't last too long. It's worth a shot (maybe rent it or buy used). Rating: - Pure EntertainmentThis is one of those hidden gems that most people would over look. Pure is an adrenaline filled game from start to end and easily captures the experience. The game offers a variety of different tracks for you to race, freestyle(Trick are in a word-SICK). The online play is also one of highlights, offering the same offline experiences as well as others. This game is definitely worth it. Rating: - All the Fun of Racing, None of the Broken BonesI am not in the "X Games" demographic and I've never been on one of these ATV things. However, I've never played professional football either, and that doesn't stop me from playing Madden. "Pure" is an addictive and immersive game. The controls are simple, which is a good thing given how little time one has to react to the courses and the importance of employing trick moves and boosts at just the right time to eke out a victory. The physics of the game are a major accomplishment. Most racing games feel flat and never really provide the illusion of immersion within the game. "Pure" just feels right. When going over a jump, I was very surprised to discover that I had full control of the vehicle and my avatar while airborne. Indeed, I screwed up many an early jump expecting to be on autopilot until landing. The courses are excellent and challenging. The wipeouts are magnificent. The ability to customize your vehicle is well-executed, although I have many hours of playing left to figure out the nuances of one type versus another. "Pure" is now my favorite racing game, quite an accomplishment given how much I enjoyed "Burnout: The Revenge". Recommended. Rating: - Great ATV racing with a whole lot of depth...I was actually surprised by PURE. Recent racing games haven't been my cup of tea over the last few years because it seems as if every developer adds a bunch of unnecessary layers (endless tweaking, passing tests to get to the meat of the game, etc.) that makes jumping in and really enjoying the game as it's meant to be enjoyed a practice in tedium from the get-go. That's NOT the case with PURE. Sure, there's plenty to tweak your ATV with, but by-in-large, PURE is an old-school ARCADE racer through and through, and that's most definitely a good thing. First of all, the game is endlessly pretty. The animations are great, the textures are as detailed as you'd like, the character models, lighting, etc., but you don't play a game just for the eye-candy. The game is simple and straight-forward arcade racing, but there is some technique to it. While PURE is like any other racing game out there in that the first to the finish line wins, the only way to really win is to take advantage of turbo boosts, and the only way to attain those is to perform TRICKS & STUNTS. While a lot of off-road/motorcycle/EXTREME racing games allow you to do tricks for bonuses, in PURE, it's basically a necessity. If you don't do them, you don't get boosts, and without those, you won't win. In doing this, PURE basically manages to make what's usually a gimmick in the genre vital to the gameplay. As you progress, you get flashier tricks, which in turn give you bigger turbo boosts. This might actually make the game sound a little intimidating, but PURE gives you plenty of tutorials, practice runs and control schemes to make sure that you'll find something that works for you. Another great aspect of PURE are the tracks. With over 30 tracks in the game, with tons of variety in their topography and features (jungles, deserts, mountain paths, you name it). These are huge tracks with tons of jumps, obstacles and alternate paths and shortcuts to take (and you'll want to find everyone). Overall, Disney Interactive did a much better job with PURE than I ever dreamed they would. It's fun from the start, drives fast to the end and offers enough in the way of variety and technique to challenge and entertain just about any gamer. If you like games like SSX, WaveRace, HydroThunder or Excitetruck, add PURE to you library. Rating: - Fly through the air with the greatest of ease!Let me start off saying this game is beautiful. Every area looks like a real valley, mountain, gully, ECT. The character models, quads and all the detail look great. It's not an easy game, it can be brutally tough. I found it to be fun even though the computer AI is insane, one mistake and your back of the pack, it seems like the computer AI knows what your thinking. When you boost they boost and seems like they never run out. They will bump you off, cut you off and generally piss you off LOL. I like the format of the races in tournament mode. This is how an off road game should look and play. Maybe the game is justa bit too tough, maybe I just suck, I still found it to be a bit brutal. It's great fun but be prepaired to be frustrated. You better have a great deal of patience on the latter levels the AI is just plain deadly insane. Getting a first later in the game is impossible. Still I would say to anyone into offroad racing games this is one of the best if not the best of the crop. I take a star off of overall for pure brutality and two off from fun because of frustration.
