Hogan's Heroes was all about the antics of a bunch of war prisoners during World War II who could escape any time they wanted, but thought it better to use their status as prisoners to gain Germany's top secret information and blow up stuff along the way. Hogan's Heroes brought us some of the funnies characters to ever grace the television screen. Colonel Klink and Sgt Schultz the bumbling Germans made the show as much as Rosco P. Coltrane made the Dukes of Hazzard. Of course it wouldn't be Hogan's Heroes without the gang Col. Robert Hogan, Louis LeBeau, Sgt Kinchloe, Sgt Richard Baker, Sgt Carter, and Peter Newkirk played by Richard Dawson who went on to host Family Feud and even gave Arnold Schwarzenegger a run for his money on the movie "The Running Man". Hogan's Heroes Trivia Here's Some interesting trivia facts about Hogan's Heroes. Robert Clary, who played LeBeau, was actually a survivor of the Holocaust and has written a book about it entitled "From the Holocaust to Hogan's Heroes: The Autobiography of Robert Clary"
Werner Klemperer and John Banner (I), who play the chief Germans Klink and Schultz, were in fact both Jewish. Werner Klemperer only agreed to play Col. Klink after he was assured that Klink would never succeed and would always look foolish. Werner Klemperer Col. Klink passed away at age 80 Hogan's Heroes lasted on the air for 7 years, although American involvement in WWII actually lasted less than 4 years.
