Magnum Movie News : Will George Clooney be the new Magnum P.I.? from yahoo

My opinion: this stinks - George Clooney is not Magnum P.I.. No offense, but there are some characters that shouldn't be replaced by new actors for these tv remakes and Magnum P.I. is one of them. After all Tom Selleck is a great actor and he's had a few big screen hits himself. It's not like he's 80 yrs old or something. Clooney ain't exactly a spring chicken himself. A lot of fans want a continuation of the series with a big screen budget. Originally, when this movie idea was being kicked around, there was talk of using Tom Selleck as Magnum and getting Tom Clancy to write the thing. This idea would have rocked!  Selleck is Magnum. If Hollywood wants a big hit they should try changing the tv show to big screen format a little. Use the original stars if possible, especially for a Magnum P.I. movie.

December 11, 1980 - September 22, 1988
CBS Detective Drama - 154 Filmed episodes

Magnum P.I was one of my favorite shows of the eighties. It was an action show with intelligence in a awesome location, Hawaii.

Magnum's Ferrari
Magnum drove a Ferrari 308. Three different models were used the
1979 308 GTS, 1981 308 GTSi, and the 1984 308 GTS QV.
Magnum's Ferrari was voted number 6 on TVLands all time favorite car list.

Magnum was killed off at the end of the 1986-87 season because producers thought the show had been cancelled. When it was renewed, Magnum spent the first episode or two as a ghost and was brought back to life. Die-hard fans contend there is evidence throughout the final season that indicates Magnum never came back to life at all, and they point to clues in the final episode, such as the revelation of Robin Masters' identity (contradicting evidence in earlier episodes), Magnum's instant changing into a Navy uniform and haircut, and the fact Magnum is seen with what might be his dead daughter in the final scene. An alternate point of view contends that Magnum is killed for real in the final episode, and that the last scenes take place "in Heaven."

By the time the series went into production, the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was being filmed. Tom Selleck was originally chosen to star in the film, but his commitment to Magnum, P.I. prevented him from doing so.
