The Hulk Movie Arrives The Hulk smashed the competition this weekend with 62.6 million dollars which sets a record for a June opening, but lags behind the wallcrawler Spider-Man movie and X2 X-men United. Spider Man opened with $114.8 million, and has grossed over 400 million dollars at the box office alone, not counting dvd and toy sales. X2 X-men United so far has grossed over 209 million in box office. It's still bringing in money at number 12 this week. Hulk Movie Review Without giving away anything hopefully, I would like to give you my own impressions of the Hulk movie. First the gripes and then the congrats. Gripes 1. Origin did not include the gamma bomb has part of the creation of the Hulk, although a gamma explosion was seen throughout the movie in flashbacks. This would have been an excellent scene for a movie that used such great special effects as this one. 2. No Rick Jones 3.I didn't like the occasional comic book panel look that was thrown in. 4. A little too grim throughout the movie. A little more comic relief here and there would have been better. 5. Bruce Banner's father, David Banner played by Nick Nolte should have turned into a second Hulk instead of gaining powers similar to that of the absorbing man. Although a very obvious choice for a plot twist, I think it would have really made a memorable point of the movie. Especially, since they went as far as to name him David Banner. 6. Bruce Banner needed a little more likeability. You felt more for Bill Bixby's character. Eric Bana did a great performance but he wasn't given enough material to show what kind of person Bruce Banner was, other than a tortured scientist. The more you like a character the more emotion you feel when the character suffers. I still liked the character but just not as much as Bill Bixby's David Banner. Congrats 1. Excellent action sequences, I just wish they were even more of them in the movie. When the Hulk smashed the tanks, I wanted to go out and play some football or something. Even though the Hulk was cgi, he clearly showed joy at smashing and bashing. It wasn't like watching a robot go through the motions. 2. The cgi was amazing especially on the close ups of the Hulk. The close ups looked even more realistic than the far away shots. 3. Sam Elliott was General "Thunderbolt" Ross. Great performance! 4. The use of the line " Don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me angry", which of course was made famous in the tv series by Bill Bixby. 5. The cameo appearances by Lou Ferrigno and Stan Lee. I wish there would have been more of Lou in the movie. 6. I won't give it away, but the very last scene was an excellent way to close out the movie. It set it up for the continuing adventures of the Hulk, and it used the previously mentioned cool line from the tv show. 7. I love the music by Danny Elfman, the use of the tv theme in the Hulk movie theme made my day. 8. The scene where the Hulk says Puny Human! He hadn't said anything in the whole movie and when he says Puny Human it catches you totally off guard. Overall Rating Go see it! It's one of the top five
movies this year in my opinion. It's a very ambitious project that may
not satisfy everybody right away. But once you get past the very high
expectations one carries into a movie like this, you'll enjoy it. It's
the kind of movie you want to see more of after it's over. Especially
after you have time to think about it. Very deep movie and it's worth
watching. If I had my way it would have had some more lighter moments
spread throughout the movie. After all, it is a summer movie, but you
can't have everything. I have a feeling the sequel will be even
better, the same way X2 was better than the original. The first movie is
a setup, to let you get used to the character. Now they know what
works and what doesn't with the cgi, and technology will be even better
next time around. Hopefully, they'll lighten up a little more next time
too. |
