Rites Of Passage: A hooker is fished out of
the Miami River. With no sign of trauma, was it suicide or murder?
Stan and Larry are assigned to crash the private party of her pimp,
David Traynor, under the guise of exterminators, just to see if
anything come up. Rico razzes them about their cover, but entering
the station he gets quite the surprise. His old girlfriend, Valerie
Gordon of the NYPD, is in Castillo's office asking for assistance.
He soon learns that eight months ago her sister Diana disappeared on
a road trip. Valerie's tracked her to Miami, but now she's hit a
blank wall. Rico bristles a little when he hears she's been dodging
him for two weeks (apparently it wasn't the best of breakups). That
night Stan and Larry go through their bug spraying routine with a
camera hidden in their equipment, while Rico and Valerie try to
discuss the search, but wind up rekindling the flame.
A few famous faces turn up at the party, but nothing seems very
interesting until Valerie watches the playback and sights her sister
on the arm of one Roberto Marquez, playboy ambassador. Sonny and
Rico don't hesitate to grab some stills and confront Marquez with
them. Despite his diplomatic immunity, to keep his nights out a
secret, he gets Sonny and Rico invited to Traynor's next party.
Arriving there, Rico locates Diana, but with all the money and drugs
she's gotten into, she doesn't want to stop hooking. Rico all but
drags her kicking and screaming from the house. Traynor moves to
intervene, but Sonny's gun in his back keeps him out of it. Diana
continues to make a scene until they're in the van when Valerie has
to literally slap some sense into her. Sticking her in rehab,
Valerie convinces her sister to come home with her, and later makes
it clear that she's not testifying against Traynor. She's been
through enough. Diana doesn't realize it, but she seals her fate
with a farewell call to David Traynor. As Rico and Valerie spend the
night together, someone slips into Diana's room and gives her a
lethal overdose. Sonny must disrupt the romantic evening by calling
with the news, then must listen to Valerie falling apart over the
phone.
Traynor is arrested, but there's no way that they can connect
him to the murder. Rico nearly loses it with him. Valerie
despondently goes to the airport to take Diana home. Only Diana
arrives. When the airline calls Rico, he and Sonny race to Traynor's
house only to find Valerie has strong-armed her way in, and shot it
out Traynor's thugs. One survives long enough to take aim at Valerie
from behind, and Sonny and Rico gun him down. The last round of
gunfire erupts between David and Valerie, ending with David on the
floor, fatally wounded. Valerie surrenders, but this isn't the last
we'll see of her.
