Junk Love:
Tubbs is on the inside, Switek and Zito listen in, Crockett's
making the rounds, Joplin and Calabrese are in costume. The
prostitution bust is going down any minute. Until glass shatters and
a perp comes running out of his room. He smashed his girl into a
mirror for biting him. Tubbs grabs and subdues him. Crockett and the
girls come running in. The victim's too high to give her name. The
pimp is arrested and identified as Ivory Jones, who used to smuggle
Vietnamese women into the States either to marry servicemen at a
price or to work in his brothel. Castillo knows him from his time in
Southeast Asia, along with Juan Carlos Silva, whom Ivory no longer
speaks to. They still have one connection--Rosella Maestres, the
girl assaulted in the brothel. She admits running to Ivory to escape
Silva, but Tubbs doesn't seem willing to believe her. Crockett does
believe when Rosella says she wants off the heroin Silva and his protégée
Roberto Pinaro are supplying her. But right after the nurse throws
them out, she disappears from the hospital. From the files it looks
like Silva and Pinaro are purging their organization. Sonny is
willing to work with Rosella to get to them, but Tubbs continues to
be obstinate, citing her addiction. But in truth, there's no other
way. Castillo meets with Ivory as he's making bail and makes the
deal to go to Silva about Rosella and find out how Silva is moving
the drugs. Acting on a tip, Crockett and Tubbs observe Silva
receiving a shipment of drugs smuggled inside fresh fish. But just
as the crew returns the boat to leave, it explodes! Crockett and
Tubbs are shocked, now seeing firsthand evidence of Silva's purge.
Next, Ivory accompanies them to a government auction. He says one of
Silva's competitors was brought up on charges and is now selling off
assets to pay his lawyers. Silva can't resist snapping up his
rival's equipment, and sure enough, he arrives with Rosella on his
arm. Ivory is certain that Pinaro was blown away on the boat, but
doubts that Rosella doesn't know yet. Crockett has a little fun at
the auction by driving up the bids on a yacht so Silva ends up
paying almost a half-million dollars for it when he could've landed
it for a quarter-million. Later on they meet at the marina bar and
Silva invites Crockett and Tubbs to a party that night. Ivory won't
be joining them. At the party, Silva shows off a painting of his
humble childhood home, making his point that everything is possible
if one wants it bad enough. He then leaves Rosella to show them
around. Crockett believes what Rosella says, but she ends up
crossing swords with Tubbs. She says if she didn't hate Silva, she'd
blow their cover, but he counters that they'd reveal where she was
found. Alone with Rosella, Crockett tells her that Silva has
murdered Pinaro, but she doesn't believe it, pointing the finger at
one of Silva's rivals and naming other dealers murdered, including
one Rosella was engaged to. Meanwhile, Tubbs slips into the security
room and meets up with Silva, who asks them to do a little smuggling
job for him. When Tubbs meets back up with Crockett, he lets him
know, but he still isn't willing to believe Rosella. Crockett still
can't figure out why she doesn't just leave. While Switek and Zito
are bugging Silva's boat, Rosella meets with Joplin and Calabrese to
reveal that Silva has murdered every man who tried to help her. And
now Ivory has just been added to the list. As the cops leave, Silva
steps from the shadows. Gina digs through more files and discovers
the truth is far more sick than they could have imagined. Crockett
and Tubbs are already out for the pickup, only to find no drugs at
the drop site. This could be a trap! What's worse, Silva switches
boats, so the backup can't find them. Silva arrives and opens fire
on Crockett and Tubbs, but then orders his gunners to stop. He tells
Rosella that he won't kill them to show his love for her, but then
hands her the gun, daring her, in full hearing of the cops, to kill
her father. He's been molesting her for years! After a long
agonizing moment, Crockett flinches away as Rosella aims and says,
"Good-bye, Daddy." Incidentally, Ivory Jones was portrayed
in this episode by the late great jazz legend Miles Davis. It's a
slight disappointment that he didn't contribute any music to the
soundtrack.
